Year Record Was Set:
50mH - 1979
55mH - 2016
60mH - 2016

Why: The current 50mH record holder is Candy Young from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. She holds the record with a run of 6.95. The current U.S. No. 1 mark is 7.95 held by Tess Stapleton from Fairfield Ludlowe (CT) High School. The 50mH is not as widely contested, so I do not see this mark going down anytime soon. There are only a total of 79 girls who have times for the 50-meter hurdles in the database this year.

The 60mH record is another very tough one to achieve; it was set three years ago by Arlington Seguin's (TX) Tonea Marshall. That year Marshall had to face fellow Texas hurdler Alexis Duncan of DeSoto week in and week out during the indoor season. That kind of competition elevated them both to great heights, with Marshall setting the national record and Duncan running the fifth fastest all-time mark at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

We've seen some strong performances out of hurdlers this year, but with the 55mH nation-leading time being 7.69 and the 60mH nation-leading time being 8.32, we will have to see something big for either national record to go down. One thing to note: White Lake Lakeland (MI) senior Grace Stark has yet to race in the hurdles this season after several big performances last year, including a U.S. No. 3 all-time mark of
7.49 in the 55mH and 8.05 in the 60mH at the 2018 New Balance Nationals Indoor meet.
