NCHSAA Rivalries That Grew From The VA Showcase

Alyssa Hernandez Versus Alysia Johnson Versus Megan Marvin

The Girls 500m battle got a lot more pressure added to it after a stellar performance from Alyssa Hernandez (Northern Guilford) at the VA Showase.  Hernandez threw down a 1:15.91 to win her section of the Invitational 500m.  The mark is currently NC#3 and US#10.

Megan Marvin (Chapel Hill) is the defending champion in the event and has run 1:18.82 this season.  Her best from last years state meet was 1:17.66.  Marvin ran a PR in the 1000m yesterday clocking 3:00.87 in the Invitational Section.  Last season she chose the 500m plus relays over the 1000m, but I'd imagine they'll have to make a decision between the two events again this year as the double is not feasible with the indoor meet schedule.

Alysia Johnson (Hillside) holds a 500m PR from last year of 1:17.22 and had previously held the 3A lead at 1:17.81 this year.  Johnson missed the end of the indoor season and the majority of the outdoor season due to injury, but she's certainly shown she's back in good form this winter.  Johnson has run 39.92 in the 300m as well and I'd expect her to double for Hillside this indoor state meet.
