Reagan after 4x200m National Championship at New Balance Outdoor Nationals
Reagan boys relay team of Keasean Dirks, Mashion Powell, Tazhae Woods and DJ Moyer brought home the 4x200m Relay National Championship in 1:25.93! The relay team came in seeded first overall with their NCHSAA 4A State Championship time of 1:26.39. They were joined by both Parkland and Walter Williams in the fast section.
Though the Raiders have been a great 4x200m squad this season, they weren't expecting to come into the National meet as the top seed.
With only one senior, Powell, on the squad, you'd think nerves would play a factor for them as they get on the big stage with all eyes on them. But Reagan showed no fear with a pretty much flawless effort on the track.
Moyer was the anchor who got the stick out in the lead and had the task of holding off some of the nations best 200m runners. Moyer got the stick and rolled down the homestretch making it look easy as they clocked 1:25.93.
It's certainly a difficult task to run at the state championships and win, then hold on for four more weeks to have success at the National Championships. Especially in a sprint relay where chemistry in exchanges is key.
Reagan will return junior Keasean Dirks, sophomore DJ Moyer and freshman Tazhae Woods to the team next year.
Forsyth County rivals Parkland took 2nd in the fast section but fell to third place overall with a team from an earlier section who ran .004 sections faster than them. Parkland clocked 1:29.59 and Walter Williams ran 1:27.40 taking 8th overall.
Reagan becomes the 11th team in North Carolina history to dip under 1:26 for the 4x200m Relay.
