Garner/Run U Xpress superstar Alex Nunley continues to confirm he's going to be North Carolina's next superstar.
Nunley had a great freshman indoor season for Garner just missing the podium in the 55m Hurdles at the NCSHAA 4A State Championships running 7.74 placing 5th. He also ran 6.68 for the 55m Dash and 37.24 for the 300m Dash.
Nunley, still 14 years old, dominated at the AAU Indoor National Championships this weekend winning the 15-16 60m Dash, 60m Hurdes, 200m Dash and 400m Dash. His times were 7.19 (7.21 in the finals) for the 60m Dash, 8.50 in the 60m Hurdles, 23.00 in the 200m Dash, and 53.08 in the 400m Dash. Race videos of three of his Finals performances are below.
Nunley has done extremely well adjusting to the high school scene, especially in the hurdles where he has had to adjust to higher hurdle heights. While just a freshman Nunley holds many USATF, AAU Age Group Record and has won many national championships in his youth career.
Nunley's range from 60 meters to 400 meters is rare and having this range from one athlete is going to be massive for the Garner track program going forward. Nunley could win 10+ NCHSAA State Championships before his high school career is done as he continues to grow and becomes stronger as he gets older, though he's certainly a lot bigger and stronger now than most 14 year olds you'll find on the track.
Nunley is certainly one to watch on the track over the next four year in both short and long sprints and hurdles.
