High Point VertKlasse Meeting Adds A High School Steeplechase

High Point University has added a High School Steeplechase to their home meet on April 6th & 7th.  The hope to bring a opportunity for North Carolina and surround states to run a rarely contested high school event outside of New York.

With the exception of New York, very few high school runners get the opportunity to run the Steeple. We would like to provide them with such and opportunity while drawing more exposure to a unique and challenging event.  Participants can use our meet to qualify for New Balance Outdoor Nationals while also drawing  attention from Colleges and universities that emphasize the event.

-Mike Esposito, Head Coach & Meet Director

The Steeple will be the last event contested on the first day (April 6th) under the lights.  The water pit will possibly be open on Thursday night for high schoolers to practice heading into the event.

Aside from New Balance Outdoors the only steeple in North Carolina was at the Dennis Craddock Carolina Relays, which won't be held this year due to the construction of the UNC Outdoor Track.

The event will be sanctioned for North Carolina High Schools.  They will not have sanctioning for out of state athletes, so they would have to compete unattached.
