Weekend Recap 4/17-4/18

Bojangles Apex Relays: Boys | Girls

* Carolyn Baskir of East Chapel Hill breaks the 5:00 barrier and runs 4:58. She led 8 girls under 5:15 and 5 under 5:10. Maraya Slatter of West Johnston was 2nd in 5:02. Freshmen Nike Indoor National champion, Samantha George of Millbrook was 3rd in 5:05.

* Very impressive relays by the ladies of SE Raleigh, West Johnston, Cary, Millbrook, & Green Hope to name a few. Gotta check the results to see for yourself.

* Jessica Johnson of Northern Durham clears 5'6" in the HJ; Cassie Crawford of Panther Creek got over 11 feet in the PV; SE Raleigh's Chrishawn Williams jumped out over 19' in the LJ & 38' in the TJ

* The boy's DMR looked to be an incredibel race. Word on the street is Taylor Gilland of Chapel Hill split 4:09.2(60,64,63,61) for the win while Dakota Peachee of West Johnston ran 4:14.1. The two teams ran 10:19.50 to 10:20.80 respectively. Independent schools Cary Academy and Durham Academy also ran very well.

* Also in the 4x800, Chapel Hill's Taylor Gilland split 55.5, 58.5 for a 1:53.9

* In the open 1600, 4 boy broke 4:25, won by sophomore Blake Williams in 4:19.70

* Knightdale and Apex run same hand time in the 4x100 with Knightdale getting the win in 42.60

* New Bern, despite being down a man or two in the normal relays, still managed to win the 4x200, SMR, 4x800, and the 4x400. Broughton's boys looked solid in the 4x200 running 1:28.50

* Green Hope throws down a big number in the 4x1600 with a 17:47, an average 1600 of about 4:27

* Looked like a nice battle in the triple jump with 3 boys over 46' and all within 5 inches of one another. The even was won by Steven Bell of SE Raleigh with a mark of 46'10.50". Second place was Union Pines' John Minott, 46'10". Finally, 3rd was Terrell Lindsay of New Bern in 46'5.50"

* One inch separated the top 2 in the discus throw. Keegn Gray of Chapel Hill defeated Aston Anglin-Stone of Garner 144'02" to 144'01".

Friendship and Freedom Invitational: High School Results

* Dominique Weathers of Vance and Gabrielle Gray of High Point Central were only separated by 1-hundredth of a second in the 100m, 11.90 to 11.91

* 6 girls break 60 in the 400m dash, won by Briana Haith of Granville Central in 57.28

* Greensboro Day's Kristin Rush gets back under 2:20 in the 800 with her winning time of 2:17.22

* NW Guilford's Chelsea Hollingsworth won both the 1600 & 3200, 5:19 and 12:18

* Sherice Walker ran 14.48 in the 100mH

* Ragsdale's Lakeya Oneal got out over 38' in the triple jump

* Southern Durham's Desmond Lawerence won the 100m dash in 10.79

* Great race in the 200, 22.93 to 22.95 with Josh Snead of Smithfield-Selma winning over Matthew Jones of Overhills

* Wayne Davis II of SE Raleigh shows up for what looks like his first run outdoors over the hurdles. Clocked a 13.69 in the prelims and 13.94 in the finals

* Cordell Livingston of SE Guilford, the MVP of the 1A,2A,3A Indoor Champs jumped out over 46 in the triple jump

* Montrell Morrow of Cummings with a big toss in the discus of 157'7"

Western Carolina Invitational: High School Results

* Varonica Johnson of Myers Park won both the 100 & 200, 12.06 & 24.67, both meet records

* 4 girls break 60 in the 400, won by Keneisha Williams in a new meet record time of 57.41

* Dudley swept the relay events with times of: 51.07, 1:44.90, 4:08.16, & 10:03.82

* Ashleigh Culpepper of Franklin won the PV with a clearance of 10'6"

* NW Cabarrus' Maklisha Ford won by a big amount in the triple jump with a mark of 36'10.50"

* John Schilkowsky of Patton HS won the 800 with an impressive personal record time of 1:54.98.

* Two boys ran under 39 seconds in the 300mH, won by Ben Majors of E.E. Smith in 38.28. Second was East Burke's Bradly King in 38.95

* Tyler Shatley of East Burke tossed the shot out to 59'10", a new meet record

Villian Relays: High School Results

* Davie County's Falon Hooper got a big mark in the girl's discus with a toss of 111'7.75"

* Brandon Enoch of Williams jumped a height of 6'6"
