Council isn't just a sprinter, he's a star football player for Northwood and was recruited by Division I colleges as a cornerback/safety.  He debated doing football, track or both in college before ultimately deciding to focus on track at the University of Tennessee.  He'll join Mallard Creek hurdler Akira Rhodes in the UT 2018 sprint class amongst others from around the country.

Below Council answered some questions on his recruitment process, and how he chose track over football.

You were recruited for both track and football, were you decided going in that you were going to focus on track and field, or it was part of the recruiting process for you?
Deciding between track or football was a big part of my recruiting process and it really came down to the last few days on what sport I was wanting to continue. A few schools had told me the doing both would be fine but in the end I want to compete at an elite level I felt the only way for me to do that was stick to one sport.

How did you decide on on track over football?
It was one of the most difficult decision I had to make during this whole process but it ultimately came down to trying to have best experience and wanting to make the best future for myself.

What schools were you narrowed down to for track?
I had three schools I was really considering at the end of the day. Those where South Carolina, Auburn, and of course Tennessee. NC State, UNC and UNC Charlotte were also strong considerations early on.

How did you decide on the University of Tennessee?
After taking my visit with another one of North Carolinas sprinters Kobe Barns I knew that was the place I wanted to go. I never felt like I had left home and the whole atmosphere and the people I met all exceeded my expectations.

You have great range from 55 meters up to 400 meters, do you have an event you'd like to focus on in college?
Yes, the 200m I what I want to focus on.

What is it like knowing you'll be competing in the SEC, the best sprinting conference in the NCAA?
Dogs got 'a run with other Dogs so I'm ready and excited

Does it excite you to see what Christian Coleman has done at Tennessee over his collegiate career knowing you're going to have some awesome coaches?
Christian Coleman's Career and achievements while at Tennessee didn't factor into why I picked Tennessee. He is a great sprinter and I'm glad I will have the opportunity to be a part of the tradition of winning that he left, but my main reason for attending was the connection and respect I felt for Coach Hall and Coach Sullivan and how at home I felt at the university.

What are the goals for your senior year at Northwood?
I have some goals I could tell you but my true goals are private and you're just going to have to wait and see what happens.
