Q. Sherice, thanks for taking some time for NCRunners.com. When did you start running track?
A. I started running my freshman year in highschool.
Q. When did you decide, this is something that I want to do at the next level, in college?
A. I knew track was something I wanted to do in college when I started doing better than I thought I could in my events, & seeing my former teammates graduate & do well in college, & also competing on the collegiate level.
Q. I'm sure there were many colleges looking at you, from all over the country. What gave NC A&T the edge in your mind?
A. When I took my visit to NC A&T, I knew thats where I wanted to be. I love the environment & I didn't want to go far from home. I feel like thats where I belong & I can picture myself doing great things there.
Q. While at Cummings HS, you have had an incredible career. You've been a part of something very special at Cummings with NCHSAA team titles and 12 individual state titles. What has been the push for you and your teammates? How do you keep doing it?
A. It is a lot of pressure on me & my teammates when it comes down to these state championship meets. A lot of people expect us to win, since we have been winning the last 3 1/2 years, so we know what we have to do to get it done. As far as myself, I just have to keep focused in order to make things happen the way I want them to.
Q. Sherice, you've competed in many events, but what is your favorite event to compete in?
A. I really don't have ONE favorite event because triple jump & the 100m hurdles are both my favorite.
Q. This may be a very difficult question for you, but what has been the highlight of your career thus far?
A. I don't really have a "highlight" of my career.I guess you could say that all of my acheivements have been highlights because I never knew I could have accomplished as much as I have within only 4 years as a track athlete.
Q. For this outdoor season, what kinds of goals have you set for yourself?
A. This season, my goals are to win another state championship title with my team & just to end my senior year with performances better than those of my previous seasons.
Q. Are there any meets that you are really looking forward to?
A. I am looking forward to the Nike Outdoor Nationals this year & all of the summer meets because these are my last meets as a highschooler & I'm looking forward to performing well.
Q. You've tallied, by looking at your bio, 185 points in NCHSAA state track meets with the outdoor season to go. How does it make you feel to not only be one of the best track stars in your school's history, but in NC history? As a 9th grader, is this what you imagined?
A. Knowing that I am one of the top athetes in NC's history makes me feel real good about myself because looking back at my 9th grade year as a freshman, I never could have imagined me being in the position I am in now.
Q. What 3 adjectives would you use to describe yourself and can you explain?
A. Confident- I never let any of my opponents intimidate me.
Determined- I am not the type of person to give up on anything the first time it doesn't go as I plan, I keep trying until I get it done right.
Strong- I have had many ups & downs, but throughout it all none of it has stopped me.
Q. Last question. What or who has pushed you to become what you are today?
A. My coach(Donald Davis) & my mom have pushed me the most to become who I am today.
