Q. Lamont, thanks for taking some time to answer my questions. First
of all, I was wondering when you started running?
A. I began running track spring of my sophomore year after I had played basketball my freshman and sophomore years!
Q. Have you always been a hurdler?
A. My head coach is very big on hurdlers and so the first day I came out he tried me out and I've been working on them ever since.
Q. Looking at your career statistics on NCRunners, you've had a nice
steady progression in all events. What do contribute this to?
Maturity as an athlete? Work ethic? Workouts?
A. Well. overall its just wanting to get better. I've seen some fast guys come and go and I just have always wanted to be one of those guys that people remember as being the best. So yes lots of hard work on the track during Fall when the season isn't in progress but motivation to just be the best I can be.
Q. How did it feel to be an All-American this past indoor season?
A. Haha, I actually wanted to get top three in both of my races so I was a bit disappointed. Overall everyone cheered me up and got me to see that I still have time to improve and that all-american in general is a great honor, so now I'm pretty happy.
Q. When did your preparation begin for this year's indoor track?
A. This year my sprint coach (Coach Williams) told me that we are gonna hit it hard during the fall which is when I began. I had run summer track so its been almost a year around thing for me.
Q. What meets are you most looking forward to this outdoor season?
A. I'm excited about city-county and conference. I want to get the MVP in both meets again. I also want to go to nationals and get top three in a event.
Q. What kinds of goals have you set for yourself?
A. Well this year I want to run below 21 in the 200 and a 48 in the open 400. I would like to do both of these at the nike outdoor nationals meet.
Q. I see you ran one XC race in 2008, why such a short-lived cross
country career?
A. Well my head coach told me I had to run one cross country meet in order to do fall workouts, so I did it...not much of a cross country guy, haha.
Q. What do you consider your best event?
A. Well I consider my best event to be the 200 but my dad thinks my best event is the 400, so I have to prove him wrong.
Q. Finally, what or who has given you the inspiration to work hard
and become one of the state's best?
A. God of course. My mom Stacy and dad Wesley who have supported me even when I wasn't as decent as I am now. My sprint coach, Coach Williams. He has worked with me hard since fall. Also my club sprint coach, Coach Speas, who always gives me support when I need it. Finally, my teammates because they always are there to cheer me on like a family!
