Interview with Sushannie Blake

Q: First off, congrats on your indoor season. How does it feel to have one of the fastest times in the nation?
A: Thank you. Having the one of the fastest times in the nation is really great and I am happy about my accomplishments so far. However, there are still lots of room for improvement.

Q: When did you begin training for the indoor season?

A: I started training during the second week of October 2008, because I knew I had a big season coming up and I needed to get ready.

Q: Which track season do you like the best? Indoor or outdoor? Why?

A: I like outdoor track season more than I like indoor track season. Outdoor season is really warm and I workout more than in indoor. Indoor season is really helping me build up my speed for the outdoor season.

Q: What kinds of goals are you setting for yourself this outdoor season?

A: My goals for the outdoor season are basically to run faster times than I did last year, to become a state champion, and to make it to Outdoor Nike Nationals 2009.

Q: I see you're from Jamaica. Were you born there or in the states? Feel free to explain.

A: Yes I’m from Jamaica. I was born in Clarendon, Jamaica and then I migrated to the states three years ago. To get more opportunities in education, track and have a great future. My grandparents always say that I run everywhere I go.

Q: For the younger readers out there, when did you begin your running career?
A: Just as I started school at the age of 7, I started to compete for my school. It felt good running, so I ran everywhere I went.

Q: Do you have a favorite workout that you do?

A: My favorite workout is running a ladder 100m-800m and 800m-100m. It really helps me out with my events that I compete in during the season.

Q: What are the big meets your focused on this coming outdoor season?
A: The 3A West Regional Championships, 3A State Championships and the Western Carolina Invitational. Those are the biggest meets I am focused on this season.

Q: Have you begun to think about your college choice?

A: I have been thinking about college a lot. I just want to go to a college that is going to help me out a lot when I get there it will help me to get better and get to the Olympics.

Q: Who is the person you admire most and why?

A: I admire my mother the most, because she doesn’t give on anything in life. She works really hard and achieves anything she wants. My mom really pushes me to accomplish my goals and work hard at the things I want in life. Her Motto to her kids is "I Love you Too Much for You to Fail”. She is not afraid to give tough love, my hero, my friend.
