Virginia Tech in Review

Results from day 1

Girls Triple Jump

Southeast Raleigh's Chrishawn Williams performed well in the triple jump. She bettered her top performance from last year and hopped, skipped, and jumped her way out to 38-03.25. It was good enough for 6th at the meet and is the 2nd best performance in North Carolina so far this indoor season.

Girls Pole Vault

In the pole vault, Meredith Wilson of AC Reynolds improved by 6 inches on the season. Her previous best was 10-00 at the Eastern HS Challenge. She cleared 10-06 at V-Tech which placed her 4th overall.

Girls 4x800 Relay

Sun Valley's girls cracked 10:00 for the first time indoors this season. They have run 9:55 outdoors at a polar bear meet and ran 10:08 last week in Chapel Hill. They placed 10th overall in Virginia with a time of 9:58.89. Also, Green Hope improved by about 18 seconds, running a solid 10:01.57, good for 12th.

Girls 3200m

Jessica Rossabi of Green Hope, only a freshman, looks to be continuing what she started during Cross Country. She led Green Hope and broke 19:00 a couple of times during the XC season. She ran an impressive time of 11:26.32 which placed her 7th overall. It gives her the 3rd fastest time in the state this indoor season. **Special note: Former Jacksonville runner, Kaitlyn Davis, now running for Mountain View in Virginia won the 3200m at V-Tech in a new personal best of 11:13.03. Congrats to Kaitlyn!

Boys Triple Jump

Parkland's Eric Ebron jumped very well in Virginia and placed 4th overall. Eric set a new personal best as he got all the way out to 46-03.00. This mark makes him the 2nd best triple jumper in the state so far this indoor season. Daisaun White of Asheville also got a solid mark with his best of 44-04.25. This placed him 7th overall and also moves him into the 7th spot in NC this season.

Boys 4x800 Relay

New Bern showed once again they are most likely the favorites to win the NC state title. The fastest time in NC besides New Bern is 8:20 and they clocked an 8:04.39, for 2nd place. Albemarle of Virginia managed to run away from this talented group from New Bern, as they ran 7:49! Look for New Bern to continue to improve here and be under 8:00 very soon.

Boys 55m Hurdles

Two NC athletes qualified for the finals in this event. The first one is the National Record Holder and US #1, Wayne Davis II of SE Raleigh. Wayne qualified first out of the prelims with a time of 7.23. New Bern's Mike Sparks (I'm writing this as if that's a mistake and it's supposed to Miles) moved down to the 55m hurdles and ran a big personal best of 8.05 (previous was 8.62).

Boys 55m

Wayne Davis II also qualified for the finals of the 55m dash. He qualified last week at the Eastern HS Challenge but didn't run the finals. I'm going to guess he does the same here since the two finals are so close to one another. Wayne continues to work on his speed. He ran 6.58 in the prelims, just off his personal best of 6.54.

Boys 3200m

Nash Central's Dillon Hawley is back and running well after not being in top form during the Cross Country season. Dillon ran 9:41.57 which placed him 6th overall, just barely slower than his 9:41.41 from last week's meet in Chapel Hill. Also, Doug Black of Green Hope finished 7th with a time of 9:44.48, barely edging his time from last week of 9:45.54.
