7 Events to Watch at Tonight's Friday Night Lights at Providence!

We're looking forward to some big races tonight at Providence under the lights!  Tune back in Friday Night for results and Race Videos going up before we're live at Apex Relays Saturday morning!

Boys 1600

Brian Risse (North Lincoln), Haywood Ferguson (South Mecklenburg), Chad Stirling (Charlotte Catholic) and Landon Maxwell (East Gaston) will squad off in the 1600 tomorrow where they are the only boys seeded sub 4:30.  Ferguson started off the season in good form running 4:28 at Weddington in a tactical race against Evan Harris.  Ferguson hasn't raced for nearly a month and could come out in good form as championship season looms.  Stirling was also out to a fast start running 4:22 at Marvin Ridge Invitational.  He ran well at the Bojangles' Classic two weeks ago, but will look to go sub 4:20 for the first time.  Risse and Maxwell have a battle amongst themselves, as it looks like they'll be the two top dogs in the NCHSAA 2A next XC and track season.

Girls 1600

Three girls will battle with hopes of going under 5:10 in Kate Eiselt (Myers Park), Anna Bristle (Parkwood) and Chandler Mccaslin (North Lincoln).  Eiselt ran 5:05 indoors and the UVA commit will look to get down to the form once again.  Bristle has been in great form and I think she has a break out race on the horizons and she's certainly an under the radar runner in NC.  She will look to hold off Anna-Kathryn Kilby (Forbush) who has beaten her twice in state championships, in XC and in the indoor 3200.

Boys 110m Hurdles

NC A&T commit Cedric McGriff (Providence) took a narrow 2nd place finish 2 weeks ago in this event at the Bojangles' Classic where he ran an NC#2 14.18.  He will look to break 14 for the second time in his HS career.  Yale commit Ben Shelley (Marvin Ridge) is having an outstanding senior season and will look to take down McGriff well as Aveon Reid (Forestview).

Girls 300m Hurdles

Jorja Medders (Marvin Ridge) and Elizabeth White (Myers Park) rank NC#4 and NC#6 respectively and will square off in the final section of the 300m Hurdles.  They've run 45.35 and 45.69 respectively and could drive each other to both break 45 seconds.

Boys 4x1600

Hilton Head (SC) will come up to Providence and are looking to break the South Carolina state record, though I'm not sure what that is, they certainly will be the team to beat with the Gilman brothers Ben and Sam.  Sam won the Bojangles' Classic this season as a sophomore in 4:15, and Ben, senior, can run just as fast in the event.  They'll certainly have two strong legs to add on as they were also 4x800 state champions at the Bojangles' Classic running 7:55.  Weddington will yield a strong team as well as Marvin Ridge that will look to compare with the top times from Bojangles' Apex Lions Relays the next day.  16 laps on the track with 4 athletes per team, a lot can happen!

Girls 4x1600

The girls field looks to be just as strong as the boys with some of North Carolina's top programs in Providence, Weddington, Myers Park and Charlotte Catholic.  They'll also go up against a strong Hilton Head (SC) team, who like the boys won the Bojangles' Classic 4x800 and look to be the team to beat.

Boys & Girls Swedish Relays

It's hard to tell who will be running for each team that's signed up.  Every year at NBON the Swedish Relay is a fun one, though it is rarely won.  This race goes 100-200-300-400, and really shows who has the strongest all around sprint program.  On the boys side, Weddington has the best 4x200 & 4x400 teams in this field, and likely best 400 runner in Emerson Douds.  For the girls, it seems to be anybodies race, but I'm keeping an eye on Marvin Ridge.
