Meet Records that fell

Ian Shanklin (Page) shattered Ariel Shores meet record in the 1600 from 2013 of 4:28.90 by running 4:22.71 yesterday.  This sets a new PR for Shanklin as he continues to have an outstanding track season.   Shanklin earned two podium finishes indoors in the 1000 and 1600 as he took 3rd and 2nd respectively and was 4th last outdoor season in the 3200.  Shanklin has fantastic range from 800-3200 on the track and we will have to wait and see what events he will look to focus on for the state meet at the end of the year.  Shanklin's 4:22 effort was solo as he won by 18 seconds.  It's also currently NC#1 Outdoors.

Sophomore Kaitlin McGoogan (Ragdale) continues a strong start to the season in the Discus as she threw 126-4 to break Cheyeene Gloster's (Salisbury) meet record of 125-9.  McGoogan was on the podium indoors in the shot put with a 4th place finish as she had a 6 feet indoor PR of 38-0.75!  As McGoogan continues to improve, she shows that she will be one of the top throwers in North Carolina the next three years.

Boys 100

Anthony Neal (Southeast Guilford) took nearly a full second off his 100 PR as he ran a 10.75!  Neal had a strong indoor season running 6.71, but emerged as one of the top sprinters in the state yesterday. Two other athletes made their first ever appearances on the track and broke 11 seconds in their 100 debut! Braylin Brown (T.W. Andrews) and Kalil Barrino (Western Guilford) ran 10.94 and 10.95 respectively.

Boys Shot Put

Soloman McDonald (Union Pines) continued his break out outdoor season in the shot put as he threw 49-1.5, just shy of his PR from Tiger Relays of 49-5.  In four meets he in undefeated in the event.  Last outdoor season McDonald had a best mark of 43-3.5 and a indoor best of 45-11.25.  Look for McDonald to break 50 feet very soon!

Girls 1600

Olivia Lackner (St. Thomas More) won a tight battle with Freshman Emma Fredericks (Northern Guilford) and sophomore Emma Kincaid (Grimsley).  Lackner ran her second consecutive outdoor PR of the season at 5:23.  Fredericks also posted a 5 second PR of her Indoor best running 5:24.78.  Kincaid and Fredericks look to be the future of Guilford County Girls distance running after Platek graduates this spring.

Girls 100mH

Eryka Baker (Dudley) set a new NC#1 mark in the 100mH setting a full second PR!  Baker's best from last summer was 15.99.  A full second in the 100mH is a massive amount of time! Only 19 girls were sub 15 last outdoor season.  The sophomore has a promising season ahead of her!
