Classic Event Entries from North Carolina

A number of top-flight 800 runners from our state will make the trip down to Clermont, on the west side of Orlando, for Saturday's meet.  On the girls' side, Brooke Turner (Tuscola) returns looking for a repeat performance after she clocked 4:59 in the mile at this meet last year.  Turner will try to improve on her PR of 2:13.85, and she will be joined by Naomi Cartier (Asheville) and Melissa Zammitti (Davidson Day).  Noah Shore (Asheville) will also run the 800, and it will be very interesting to see how fast he can go when fresh - he had to run 1:56.23 to win the 3A state meet, but he might have more to show than that.

North Carolina will also send a pair of very competitive sprinters to Florida this weekend.  Daniel Estrada (Northwest Guilford/Platinum Sports) got edged out for the 4A title in the 100 last weekend, running a NC #2 US #6 time of 10.40.  He has also improved tremendously in the 200 this spring, posting a new PR of 21.45.  He will run those two events this weekend, and will be joined by Jawan Miller (Hopewell) in both.  Brent Carroll (Phillip O. Berry Academy) will compete in both hurdle races, and he will be the 3rd seed in each of them.  We will also see the return of Steve Fossi-Noue, who was forced to sit out the spring season but hopes to get back on course for nationals.  The UConn-bound senior will compete in his two best events, the high jump and the triple jump, and he has the potential to approach 50 feet in the latter event if he is healthy.

Two former North Carolina stars will also be on hand for the meet.  McKinley Brown, who ran for Hillside last year before moving to Florida, will be in both hurdler races to battle Carroll.  Former Cary standout Lakeisha Warner will also compete in the 400 Hurdles for
