You can make the case that Ashton Eaton, the world record holder in the decathlon, is the best athlete EVER. The Olympic gold-medalist and 2-time world champ will be at JDL Fast Track this weekend to race the hurdles.
The meet has gone through several versions over its 4 years of existence, but the principle has remained the same. First, you put together one of the biggest and most competitive collegiate indoor invitationals in the region. Then, you add races for Elite professionals, complete with appearance fees, prize money, and unparalleled hospitality. Combine those together, and you can generate serious national buzz! That's the formula the Camel City Invitational has followed, and by any measure it has grown into one of our sport's must-see events.
Originally named the Hilton Garden Innvitational, the first edition of JDL Fast Track's signature college meet was held in 2013, with a single Elite race - the Camel City Mile, from which the meet's current name arose. Since then, the Elite events have become a spectacle unto themselves, a "meet within a meet" that combines showmanship with top-flight talent to create a unique spectator experience. Every year the JDL management upgrades the meet, from adding special lighting to recruiting guest announcers (and of course bringing in world-class talent).
The college invitational kicks off on Friday afternoon at 1:00, and continues Saturday starting at 9:00. When 2:00 rolls around on Saturday afternoon, the mood shifts as the track is given over to some of the best international athletes the US has to offer.
