4A State Meet - Saturday Afternoon

About 30 minutes away from the start fo the field events. The fieldhouse is getting crowded.

Boys 55m Hurdle Prelims - Wayne Davis takes his heat in 7.18, Spencer Adams follows in 7.31

Girls 55m dash prelims - Dominique Weathers runs a quick 7.08 beating Ashley Bethune and placing her about 13th nationally. WC's Bryant ties season PR of 7.00, which is currently 4th in the country.

Boys 55m Dash Prelims - Adams of Butler wins his heat in 6.52, TJ Graham takes second heat unofficially in 6.37

Girls Pole Vault - 3 currently over at 10-6! Rivers of Clayton, Wilson of AC Reynolds, and Kazaglis of Green Hope

Girls 4x800m - Cary wins over MP in a new state record 9:51.5

Boys 4x800m - New Bern wins big in 8:05.70. Dylan Ferris looked relaxed as he helped East Forsyth pick up second place points over South View, with both being clocked in 8:20. Myers Park took 4th in 8:23.

Girls 55m Hurdles - Ashley Bethune rolls to an 8.10, and rolls into 6th nationally.

Boys 55m Hurdles - Wayne Davis clocks another low time in 7.11 over Butler's Spencer Adams 7.24. Davis' time ties the state meet record. Adams' time moves him into 2nd in the nation, Keare Smith took 3rd with a 7.30, placing him 3rd in the country. The absence of Booker Nunley, who now is 4th in the nation at 7.33, is particularly noticeable here in this field of national class hurdlers.

Girls 55m - Nyosha Bryant hits 6.94, moving her up to 3rd overall in the country this year.

Boys 55m - TJ Graham prevails in 6.39.

Girls 1600m - Immediately turns into a 3 girl race between Cozarelli of Apex, Spano of North Meck, and frosh Margaret Leak of Mt. Tabor. Cozarelli pulls away from Spano, who lead 7/8 of the race, to win in 5:10, Spano 5:13, Leak 5:15.

Boys 1600m - This race turned tactical from the start. Nick Graw of Enloe and Dwayne Townsend of Southview shared leading duties throughout most of the race, with most of the major players lurking behind. With a lap to go East Forsyth's Dylan Ferris had gained the lead with Zak Roshdy of Green Hope hot on his heels. Ferris slowly increased the pace over the final 200m to win comfortably in 4:26 to Roshdy's 4:27. Alex Wiggan of Vance grabbed 3rd in 4:28-9.

Girls 500m - Gulley of Mallard Creek wins going away 1:17.33 over Gilliam and Bryant of West Charlotte, both clocked in 1:20. Deloache from MP won the middle heat in 1:19 and picked up 2nd place in the pocess.

Boys 500m - Anthony Hendrix of New Bern gets by Chris Herring from Knightdale 1:05.24 to 1:05.96. Hendrix is now 2nd in the nation, while Herring sits at 8th nationally.

Girls Long Jump - Jocinda Evans of Southern Durham takes it in 19' 01" and Nyosha Bryant of the Dub-C went 19' 0" to move her into 5th in the country. Ashlynn Chavis jumped 18'06" for 3rd and is twelth nationally.

Girls 1000m - Slater of W. Johnston holds off Lapp of SE Raleigh as both hit 3:09.

Boys 1000m - Ferris takes it out on the field early, 56 first lap. Alex Taylor from Providence 2nd, Wiggan 3rd, Andrew Hendrix New Bern 4th. Ferris 1:57.x through 800m! Holds on for 2:29.03, new state record and good for 3rd in the nation after a 4x800 and 1600. Alex Taylor ran very well also, hitting 2:33.39 for 2nd, currently 17th nationally.

Girls 300m - WC's Bryant wins over Weathers of Vance 41.23-41.44.

Boys 300m - TJ Graham takes it in 34.99.

Girls 3200m - Cozarelli leading early, tailed by Bishop and Schustrom of Pinecrest. Through the mile in 5:40. Still those Cozarelli, Bishop with a lap to go, Schustrom slightly behind. And it's Cozarelli in 11:23, Bishop 11:28, Schustrom 11:32, and Allison Hoffman of MP grabs 4th in 11:43.

Boys 3200 - Dakota Peachee W Jonhston, Pat Crawford E Forsyth, and Derrick Poage all together thr. 800m in 2:22. Poage now falling off. Peachee opening up on Crawford. Green Hope running in 3,4,5 with Black, Spreitzer and Walling. Black and Spreitzer now passing Crawford with 3 laps to go. Peachee surging with a lap to go. He comes home in 9:38 with Black closing well for 2nd in 9:42, Poage 3rd in 9:44.

Boys Pole vault - Scott Houston putting on a show here! He comes in at 15' and set a new state record with a 15' 6" jump. No one else is still in. He has cleared 16', now about to attempt 16' 6" Houston now over 16' 6", going for 17'.

 

 

 

1A/2A/3A State Meet - Saturday Morning

Girls 4x800 - Jacksonville's Henderson opens up race on second leg with 2:21 split. Hobbs of Sun Valley closes hard to make the final 300 a race. Swann of J'ville holds on for the win in 9:52 to Sun Valley's 9:53.

Boys 4x800 - Both Asheville's Harwell and Mooresville's Craig take it out in 2:03. Presson of Asheville pulls even with Newman of Mooresville on third leg, but it's Mooresville in the lead as the anchor goes to Campbell, Newman 2:03-4 split. Campbell cruises a 2:07ish for an 8:20 win, Asheville 8:22.

Girls Pole Vault - Top girls were seeded at 9'6", now four knocking on the door of 10'

Girls High Jump -

Girls 55m Hurdles - Walker of Cummings runs 8.16, tied for 10th in the nation

Boys 55m Hurdles - North Rowan's Bostick wins by over two tenths in 7.60

Girls 55m Dash - Kendrick of Forestview runs 7.02 for the win in only her 2nd meet of the season, places her 2nd in the state, 7th in the country

Boys 55m Dash - Darrell Williams of White Oak edges McKnight of Asheville 6.41 to 6.45

Boys Shot Put - Jake Deaton scores crucial points for Mooresville's bid at the team title with win

Girls 1600m - 3 TCR girls lead through half. Kirby and Smith of TCR trying to break Henderson of Jacksonville. Henderson of Jacksonvlle holds off late charge by Kenyatta of Olympic, both timed in 5:18. Hoer, Kirby, and Smith go 3-4-5.

Boys 1600m - Patrick Campbell out in 65, 70 for chase pack, seems to be a race for 2nd. Campbell has a 50m+ lead through 800 in 2:12, Harwell from Asheville and Cox of Mooresville lead chase pack. Campbell lets up a lot in final quarter to win easily in 4:34, Nick Kelly of Williams takes 2nd in 4:36, with Harwell and Presson 3rd and 4th also in 4:46.

Boys 300m - In a great race to the finish, Graves of Southern Guilford edged Elliott of Parkland 1:06.97 to 1:06.98.

Girls 1000m - Laura Hoer of TCR wins in 3:05.49, breaking the old 1A/2A/3A state indoor record. Triton's Godwin 2nd in 3:05.88, also breaking the old record.

Boys 1000m - John Wolfe of Polk County, go 1A, comes away with the victory in 2:36 and change. He took off with about 300 to go and no one could hang.

Girls 300m - Radiance Basden of Western Guilford won in 40.65 - right at the Nike Outdoor qualifying standard.

Boys 300m - Graves comes back and doubles, wins the 300 in 36.55. Council of Goldsboro in 2nd with a time of 36.70.

Girls 3200m - Molly Baker of Cardinal Gibbons wins the first heat in 12:06. Gibbons' Rapp, TCR's Kirby, and Williams' Ester go through the mile in 5:42, followed by Davis from J'ville and Stout of H'ville in 5:47. Kirby, Ester, and Rapp still a pack of three. Rapp falling off, Kirby holding a slight lead over Ester-3A XC States all over again! And it's Ester pulling away in the final 100m, 11:31 to 11:33. Rapp 11:43 Stout 11:49 and Davis 11:55.

Boys 3200m - Fisher of Northwest Cabarrus wins the first heat over Steven Bollinger from Olympic, 10:10 to 10:14. Josey Weaver has just finished up the pole vault and is now jogging over to the line to start the 3200, pretty impressive. Through the first two laps it's Weaver leading Campbell, everyone still in the race. Campbell now making a move after 600m. By 800m Campbell and Weaver have gapped the field, chase pack consisting of Harwell, Freeman of Reagan, and Presson. Campbell has now built a 20m gap over Weaver. Campbell gaps everyone to finish comfortably in 9:36, a late surge by Ben Sterret of Swansboro places him 2nd over Weaver and Harwell in 9:51.

Boys Pole Vault - Now attempting 15-03! Mount Pleasant's Landon Patterson, entered at 13', just cleared 15' on his first attempt. He's the only one left in the competition. This would be a new state indoor record for 1A/2A/3A - the current record is 15-2, and it would tie Scott Houston's all-time state meet record from last year (regardless of classification). Patterson wins with a clearance of 15'.

Girls 4x400m - Western Guilford wins in 4:04.98 for a new state record! 2nd place was Jacksonville in 4:08, while White Oak was 3rd also in 4:08.

Boys 4x400m - Carver cracks 3:30 with 3:29.37 over Parkland in 3:33.47 and Hendersonville in 3:35.2
