Preview

The meet director, Charlie Brown, is thrilled to have such talented teams running this weekend at the relays. Take a closer look at the ranked teams who will be racing:

Girls
#5 ranked 4A - Cary
#1 ranked 2A - Cardinal Gibbons
#4 ranked NCISAA - Providence Day

Boys
#4 ranked 4A - Green Hope
#9 ranked 4A - Cary
#1 ranked 3A - Mooresville
#3 ranked 2A - Cardinal Gibbons
#1 ranked NCISAA - Providence Day

The Cary girls should be the favorites to win the team title, but look for Cardinal Gibbons to challenge them. Gibbons has owned this race over the past few years, so they have an advantage there. Could it come down to a Kristen Azarelo(Cary) vs. Heather Beichner(Gibbons) dual over the last leg?  That would be exciting for everyone. Expect Green Hope and Providence Day to battle for 3rd. Last year Green Hope and Providence Day were separated by only 10 seconds, could definitely be that close again. Page and East Forsyth should also be in the mix.

The boy's race could be very exciting. Green Hope has a very tight pack with Zak Roshdy leading the way. Zak is a bit in front of the pack as he ran 16:18 this past weekend. Behind him is a group of 5 who ran 16:41 to 16:48 on the UNCW course. Obviously their splits on this 1.55 mile course could be very similar. Mooreville is led by Patrick Campbell who has been tearing up courses so far this season. They have a very solid group behind him as well as their next 4 have 5k season PR's of 16:19, 16:47, 16:52, & 16:56. This could be a very interesting race for 1st. Providence Day and Cary should be battling for the 3rd spot. Providence Day finished 5th at Seahawk Invite this past weekend with Cary finishing in the 8th spot. Don't count out the "B" teams of Moorseville and Green Hope for top finishes as both have plenty of depth.
