Coach Malady of Weddington Stepping Away

Coach David Malady of Weddington has done great things at Weddington HS in his stay there. He took a new school in Union County and built them to be a force in the 3A classification. Then Weddington High School jumped to the 4A classification. People didn't give them a chance coming in but they proved they could be a force in the present and future.

The future is now for the girl's track team. They recently won the Appalachian State HS Invitational and are creeping towards the top of the 4A Coaches Poll.

Coach Malady has done what it takes at Weddington HS to turn it into a force both in track and in cross country. He has also helped improve the sport of cross country across the state. If it wasn't for him there would be no coaches poll. Yes, it is just a coaches poll, but it gets plenty of people talking. Also, it definitely gives teams something to prove. Thanks, David.

I know his athletes and their parents will miss him, but so will the rest of the running community.

I think I can speak for all coaches across the state when I say, "Thanks for everything you've done. We have a great deal of respect for you. I hope you can leave the sport (for now) knowing that."
