Weekend recap - 3/31

Pitt County Track & Field Championships

The J.H. Rose girl's team rolled to a big victory. They looked very good and could be a sleeper in the 4A girl's race. Here are some of Rose's top performances:

  • L. Smith went 16' 5' in the LJ
  • 2 girls over 31' in the TJ
  • K. Woodson threw 39' in the shot put
  • 4x800 went 10:38
  • 4x200 went 1:47.7
  • 2 girls at 1:01.5
  • C. Wright ran 47.10 and V. Robinson ran 49.2 in the 300h
  • 4x400 went 4:20.8

Farmville Central also looked pretty good and was led by M. Johnson's 12.00 in the 100m. Also, T. Little ran 12.30 in the 100. M. Johnson ran very fast in the 200, posting a time of 24.6. T. Little's time wasn't too shabby either, as she ran 26.2.

In the boy's meet, North Pitt looked very solid. They have potential to be very dangerous in the 2A state meet. Farmville Central wasn't too far behind, 10 pts.

  • N. Pitt had 2 jumpers over 42'
  • Adrian Little of Farmville Central threw 56' 6.25" in the shot put - huge!
  • I. Cox of Farmville threw 141' 4" in the discus
  • Farmville's Lanier edged N. PItt's Williams by 1 hundredth of a second, 14.32 to 14.33
  • Lanier also ran right at 22 flat in the 200, a solid time.

5th Annual Blue Ridge Classic

It was the largest meet in its history with about 700 athletes and 62 teams represented. There were some timing issues, but it seems the finals were in order.

TC Roberson's girls looked good taking the win over Science Hill (TN), Vance, and Providence Day, 3 powers in their own classifications. There were a ton of great performances and there's no way I could point them all out.

Check out the elite performances on the meet's page.

* Malai Walker (Charlotte Latin), Emma Bowers (Science Hill), Olivia Ellington (Watauga), and Sharron Davis (North Davidson) led the way in girl's sprints.

* Jasmine Isley (Charlotte Latin), Sophia Treakle (Asheville), & Kendall King (TCR) looked good in the hurdles

* Marley Burns (Carolina Day) won both the 1600 and 3200, while Caroline Kirby (TCR) took 2nd in both

* Hannah Bowers (Science Hill) and Mimi Morlu (Providence Day) went under 60 sec. in the 400. Bowers clocked 56.96 and Morlu 58.85.

* TC Roberson's girls ran the #1 time in the state in the 4x800

* Shakira Best (Vance) and Kayla Kuziola (Science Hill) raced well in the 800, with Best winning in the fastest time in NC so far

* TCR's Bridgette Hills continued jumping well in the HJ with a 5' 2"

* Providence Day's duo of X'auntasia Johnson and Mimi Morlu dominated the horizontal jumps. In the TJ they went 1,3 with Johnson setting a new meet record. In the LJ, they went 1,2 with Morlu winning.

*  Watauga's Brooke Mille and Taylor Cook continued to vault well, 10' 6" and 10'.

* Landon Powerll of North Davidson also looked very good in both, 11.00 and 21.84

* 4 boys went under 50 seconds led by Anthony Hendrix in 48.6. Justin Fleming (Freedom), Jay Boyd (Ashbrook), Marcus McClary (Vance) all dipped under

* Alex Wiggan (Vance) ran a 63 last 400 to win the 1600 in 4:33.

* Graham Davis (Carolina Day) won the 3200 in 9:46.78 after hitting the mile in 5:02.

* Booker Nunley of Garner won both hurdle events in solid times, 14.41 and 38.56. Justin Crawford of Ashbrook was 2nd in both, not far behind, 14.48 and 39.00.

* New Bern continued to excel in the sprints, running 1:27.68 in the 4x200. They were well on their way to victory in the 4x100 as well, but a missed handoff in the 2nd exchange cost them the victory. They also won the 4x400 after a long day of running in 3:23.46. Earlier in the day, they posted a 8:10 in the 4x800 with 2 legs cruising.

* Michael England of AC Reynolds soared to 15' in the pole vault, a new personal best for him.

* McDowell looked very good in the jumps. Andre Conley won the TJ in 45' 1.5" and his teammate, Ismael Swepsom, jumped 44' 10.75".

* Brian Davis of Providence Day won the shot with a throw of 48', just about 5 inches further than Jacob Howard of AC Reynolds.

* Hendersonville's Jaime Hatten won the discus with a solid throw of 144' 04".
