Trentavis Friday is back in action, gearing up for next week's USATF Junior Olympic Nationals.
One of the great institutions of the summer track season kicks off Friday in Durham: the Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational. Named for the legendary and long-time Hillside High coach, the meet attracts club teams and athletes from several states (plus a contingent from Bermuda that comes over every summer). This year's meet is positioned a little differently, though, as the USATF Junior Olympics start Monday in Greensboro; that tight turn-around might discourage some of the top qualifiers from competing this weekend. A meet this size is impossible to fully preview, so please forgive my brevity. Below you will find the names of some of the top athletes competing, in the high-school age groups that NCRunners tracks (15-16 and 17-18). I will also focus a little extra attention on North Carolina athletes, of course, while still recognizing the top entrants from out-of-state.
