Rocky Hansen Runs State Record 4:00.76 in 1 Mile Run

We have a new state record holder in the mile! Christ School junior Rocky Hansen erupted on the scene just a few weeks ago with his 4:02 1,600m performance at Carolina Distance Carnival. This weekend at RunningLane in Alabama Hansen took home the win in the mile running 4:00.76!

Hansen took down Newbury Park junior Lex Young, who was runner-up. Hansen is fresh off capturing the NCISAA state titles in the 800, 1,600m, and 3,200m.

"I just focused on keeping up with the guy up front...and it ultimately worked out."

His time is now NC No. 1 all-time passing the 4:03 run in 2012 by Craig Engels. Only a junior, Hansen has the chance to chase the historic sub 4:00 mile mark. Only 14 boys in U.S. history have dipped under 4:00 in the full mile.

"Last winter I had issues with iron deficiency, and I had a rough go with it, but I was able to climb out of that hole and get to where I am now."

He is scheduled to have two more chances at the 4:00 barrier this season, as he is running at Music City Distance Carnival in TN next weekend and New Balance Nationals later in June. Hansen's 2021 outdoor PR was set at Music City where he ran 4:16. Hansen now holds the overall state record in the mile, along with the junior class record, and he sits NC Sophomore No. 4 all-time.
