NCISAA State Championship Preview: 6 State Titles Are Up For Grabs

NCISAA 2A Boys

Last year Connor White (Christ the King Catholic) took down Luke Evans (Westchester Country Day) in what was likely considered an upset over the 2015 NCISAA 2A Champion.  White has been an animal this year running under 16 minutes 4 times this season.  He currently has a 15:44 seasons best, 40 seconds faster than Evans has run this fall.  Though White has been more dominant this year Evans holds a PR from his junior year of 15:56 on this WakeMed course, and I'd be surprised if he didn't challenge White for the individual crown tomorrow.

Last year's 3rd place finisher Will Sossaman (Grace Christian School) has had a big senior year thus far.  Sossaman has always finished strong at the NCISAA State Meet and looks to be in store for another big day.  Sossaman was 3rd behind White and Evans last year, but this year he comes into the meet running 16:35.  Sossman's been 6th, 12th, 4th, and 3rd the last four years at this meet, and he's likely had his sights set on an individual title the last few years.  Matthew Fowler (Concord First Assembly) is someone I think could suprise fans tomorrow as athletes head up the WakeMed hill to the finish line.  The junior has run under 17 minutes 5 times this year and will be looking to upset these seniors.

As always, the NCISAA 2A boys team battle is going to be intense.  Cary Christian, Asheville Christian Academy and St. Thomas More Academy all come in projected to score 102, 103 and 105 points respectively.  Defending champions Grace Christian School are not far off that with 130 points, though lost to Cary Christian at the EPIC Championships last week.  ACA has the best 1-2 in Reece Collie and Jax Ledford, though need a strong performance from their 3,4,5 to secure the title.  Cary Christian will be lead by senior Wade Stinson, and they have the strongest 5th runner out of the top teams, but its very close.  All the top teams have a similar makeup, and just one runner having a breakout day could be massive in the team scores.  There is no clear favorite, and going to be no room for error from these squads tomorrow.
