NCISAA 2A Girls
The last three years Carolina Day School has taken things to the next level at the NCISAA State Championships. But this year will be different as they don't have standout Ralene Kwiatkowski anymore. They have found a solid replacement in Olivia Sutter who placed third to Kwiatkowski last year. Sutter is the top returner, but we didn't see her race at the CAA Championships where they only won by 1 point over Asheville Christian Academy. CDS didn't have their 1-2 in Sutter and Ella Dockendorf, and if that's the case tomorrow it's going to become a wide open race between CDS, Asheville Christian, St. Thomas More and Cary Christian. If CDS do have their full top 5, they're going to be hard to compete with tomorrow.
Asheville Christian and St. Thomas More pose as the biggest threats to take down the 3 time defending champions. ACA has a tight pack at 58 second from their 1-5 where any on of their top 5 could be their 1. St. Thomas More has two strong frontrunners who both will contend for the individual crown.
Olivia Lackner (St. Thomas More) was 4th last year, but has the fastest time in 2A this season of 19:20. Sutter holds a seasons best of 19:26 this season. It was Lucy Ketterer (St. Thomas More) who beat her teammate Lackner at their conference meet last weekend, while Cary Christian's duo of Zoe Vestal and Brooke Lindsay have run 19:30 and 19:35 this season. Ella Dockendorf (CDS) is also under 20 minutes this fall with a PR of 19:52. It's going to come down to these 6 girls tomorrow, and it's going to likely take a sub 19 performance to win on this fast WakeMed course tomorrow.
