Ben Hawley (Chapel Hill)
Ben Hawley proved to be a star in his high school 5K debut last weekend at the Jungle Run. Hawley eclipsed Murphy Smith's (Ardrey Kelly) state leading mark for freshman by a second clocking 16:32.49 placing 17th overall. Hawley also made Chapel Hill's top 5, which is not an easy task as the Tigers are ridiculously deep. Coach Joan Nesbit-Mabe recalls running an 8K against him when he was 8 Years Old as he was running beside her not breathing hard before pulling ahead of her. Hawley looks to lead a strong freshman class at Chapel Hill including Emil Arangala, Max Reisinger and Ethan Mathis. Coach Nesbit-Mabe also said that his teammate really want to push him to break Bradley Viles school freshman record of 16:06 set in 2009.
