11 Events To Watch At The NCHSAA 2A State Championships!

This weekend's NCHSAA State Championships will be brought to you LIVE on FloTrack! You can watch this event live with the MileSplit Universal plan unlocking all of the rankings, photos, archived race video and more!  Photos and Archived Race Video from the event will go up on Sunday morning.  We're super excited that state meet weekend is finally here and are glad to be live streaming the event for the first time in NCHSAA Track & Field History!  Below you can find a preview of what you can expect from the team scores. Then over the next 11 pages read about what some of the most exciting events will be on the track tomorrow!

Boys Team Battle

North Brunswick doesn't seem to have a full squad that qualifier for this meet as they didn't double up Jc Smith and Cameron Barnhill in the 100/200 and each are just doing one individual track event.  But they'll still be very unbeatable tomorrow unless a lot goes wrong.  Jayhlen Washington's likely to score 30 points individually with will likely outscore most teams in 2A tomorrow.  They're ranked NC#1 in the 4x100, but didn't run a team at regionals it looks like. 

If NB does slip up, Brevards and Croatan will be knocking on the door.  They'll also be battling throughout the day in what will likely be a battle for second place.  They'll kick off the day in a head to head battle in the 4x800 where they're the top two seeds.  Croatan is powered through relays and middle distance runners, while Brevard is solely distance and 4x800 powered by Noah Graham, who could sweep the distance events. 

Girls Team Battle

It's a weird scenario that a team that wasn't a top 2 team at their regional meet comes in as the favorites, but that's the case for 2A girls this outdoor season.  DSA dominated the team scores at 2A Mideast last weekend beating Cummings and T.W. Andrews.  But DSA's distance runners likely won't score as many points at the state level as they did at the regional level, while Cummings and T.W. Andrews will have athletes contending for the win in almost every sprint and jump events.

T.W. Andrews won the indoor title with only 4 girls this season!  They weren't able to contend in the relays due to having such a small team, but it looks like they've added a few more athletes to make their team even stronger this outdoor season.  Zacora McKnight has also emerged as a 300mH star and will look to take down Cummings' defending champion Kayla Moore.  McKnight did beat Moore at the regional meet.  They jumps will be crucial for both T.W. Andrews and Cummings as they're projected to score 28 and 30 points there respectively.  T.W. Andrews Triple Jump success over Cummings is what won them an indoor team title.  Peighton Simmons and McKnight will face off with Kelsia Moore and Kenyae Majors in the triple jump, where they're projected the top 4 spots.  Nicole Barnes will be Andrews solo competitor in the long jump, as she will have the difficult task of beating the Moore sisters and Majors from Cummings.  The virtual meet projects T.W. Andrews over Cummings 91-83, but that has Andrews athletes over Cummings in the long & triple.  If Cummings girls can have a better day in the jumps than Andrews it'll be a massive points swing!
