NCISAA 3A Girls
Two years ago Sarah Bodmer (Cary Academy) shocked herself as she won her first NCISAA 3A State XC title as a sophomore. Last year she defended winning by 30 seconds over senior Jena Metwalli. She comes in as a heavy favorite this season and has run 18:23 this year. But Lindsey Ickes (FCDS), Justine Cronk (Providence Day) and Lilly Hallock (Charlotte Latin) will not give up without a fight. Hallock is coming off a big win last weekend against Cronk at the CISAA Championships and will be coming in with a ton of confidence in her final XC race. Emily Lane (Cary Academy) has been battling injury throughout the season and hasn't been able to race as much, or as well, as she would like. But if she is 100%she will certainly be in the mix up front. Cary Academy's Ava Lathan and Lia Lathan look to cap off what has been a tremendous freshman season. They've both run 19:18 this season and come in at 4th and 5th respectively in our virtual meet. Ella Dunn (Charlotte Country Day) had everything go to plan at this meet last year where she took 3rd place ahead of Lane. She certainly cannot be factored out of claiming a top spot once again this season.
Cary Academy have battled some injuries to their top 5 this season, but have been very careful in resting their injured runners. Their depth back to their 7th girl being better than every other schools 4th girl in our virtual meet seems to make them a lock to defend their team title. Charlotte Latin beat Providence Day and Covenent Day School last week at the CISAA Championships and the three schools will square off once again for a top 2 team finish on Friday.
