Last Week to Vote on the New Jewelry Rule

The two polls - one for coaches only, one for the public - will stay open through Labor Day Weekend.

This is the last week to make your voice heard in the joint NCRunners-NCTCCCA poll on the new NFHS Jewelry Rule (explained in the next paragraph). The poll will stay up through Labor Day Weekend, so spread the word and encourage everyone you know to participate.  Each individual can only vote once.

Some background: starting with the 2015 track season (which would include indoor track here in North Carolina), the national sanctioning body for high school sports has removed the rule that regulates jewelry from the rule book.  With that change, wearing jewelry would no longer be banned in high school track and cross country.  However, under NFHS rules it is up to each state association to implement and interpret the rules, and so the NCHSAA could elect to keep in place the ban on jewelry.  At the summer rules session put on by the NCHSAA, coaches were asked their opinion, and the majority seemed to favor keeping the older, more-restrictive rules in place; however, after speaking to many coaches, we believe that many did not understand the question correctly.  For that reason, the NCTCCCA wants to poll the coaches in the state (and NCRunners wants to poll everyone!) to gauge their opinions on this topic.  This information will be used to submit a proposal to the NCHSAA, and if there is strong support for the NCTCCCA's position that will have some influence on the NCHSAA's final decision.  So this is your chance to have your voice heard and make a difference in the decision-making process!
