2A Boys Recap

Andrew Fea (North Lincoln) was the early pacesetter in this race, pursued by a sizeable chase pack approaching the mile mark.

A.J. Tucker (Cedar Ridge), Corbin Boyles (Maiden), and Chris Boyle (North Lincoln) were at the front of the first group.

Nearing the midpoint of the race, Tucker had begun to draw a bead on the leader, while Dominic Collichio (Carrboro) had moved into third.

Tucker took command heading toward the two-mile mark and never looked back, winning solidy,

Denzel Jefferson (St. Paul's), who was in 10th place midway through the race, rose all the way to second over the last mile.

Boyle finished third with Collichio right behind, while Boyles capped a great freshman year with his fifth-place finish.

2A Girls Recap

Madison Simmons (Cuthbertson) was aggressive from the start, undaunted by the muddy conditions.

She was pursued by Grace Morken (Carrboro), Savannah Fornshell (North Lincoln), Jessica Wallace (First Flight), and Grace Turner (Lincolnton).

Those five merged into one lead pack as they approached the midpoint of the race, joined by Laney Browder (Wilkes Central).

Morken, Turner, and Simmons were still in front at the two-mile mark, and indeed heading into the last helf-mile.

Morken was biding her time, though, and was able to pull away going through the inner loop to win.

Turner held off Simmons, who in turn held off hard-charging Maysa Araba (Carrboro).

Araba and her teammate Helen Morken had climbed into the top ten over the last half of the race.

Wallace had to kick hard to get past the younger Morken sister for fifth place.
