John Tatter took the win at Foot Locker South on Saturday.  His performance was the third ever win by a North Carolina athlete joining Ryan Hill (Hickory) and Bradsher Wilkins (Orange).  In 2015 the course was updated as the pervious course as short of 5000 meters.  Thus an 80 meter hairpin turn was added to the course skewing the historic records from the meet.  However that year Drew Hunter broke the meet record running 14:26.

Last year we thought Connor Lanes 14:59 and 2nd place finish might equate to the fastest time ever by a North Carolina athlete on the course.  With Tatter running 5 seconds faster it's safe to say this certainly could be the best performance ever at McAlpine by a NC athlete.  Ben Huffman's 14:44 in 2013 was impressive, but is Tatter's 14:55 faster given the lengthened course?  The course has run 15-20 seconds slower after the course was lengthened.
