Kiya Ovison (Southeast Guilford) had a strong indoor season in the 300 running 39.11 and taking 2nd to Tamara Clark at the 4A Indoor State Championships. She hasn't really run the 400 prior to this season, but it looks like she found a new distance! Indoors she ran 1:00.97, in two outdoor races she ran 1:02.24 and 59.34 prior. I thought she'd be capable of much more and showed it on Saturday in section 9 of 14 totally dominating her heat! Oviosun set a 3 second PR of 56.50 and was the top NC girl in a strong field taking 4th overall! I think the more she gets used to the 400 the faster she will go.
Oviosun now ranks NC#5 in the 400 behind Alysia Johnson (Hillside), Maya Singletary (Hoke), Jessica Wright (Hillside) and Kyna Robinson (Southeast Raleigh). This will certainly be one of the best races at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships. Robinson raced in the fast section and took 5th overall in 56.68!
