Eastern Challenge Preview - North Carolinian's Look to hold off Strong Florida Talent

Boys Sprints/Hurdles

55 Dash

We will see a strong 55m Dash field with the top 15 boys under 6.60.  Brandon Ray (Athens Drive) holds the fastest mark from this indoor season of 6.47, and Isaiah Southerland (Jordan) holds a PR from a year ago of 6.46.  We will also see Josh Polk (Hobbton) and Van Gupton (Rolesville) who have show some fast marks so far this season.  Cameron Barnhill (North Brunswick) and JC Smith (North Brunswick) have both shown fast hand-held marks this season, and will look to post some fast FAT marks.  It'll certainly be a tough final to make.

55 Hurdles

Jayhlen Washington (North Brunswick) will be a heavy favorite in this field, he clocked a 7.58 at the VA Showcase to advance to the finals, but an ankle injury in the triple jump caused him to scratch.  Ralph Vieux (Garner) has been very close to getting a sub 8 second FAT time and will lead a large group of boys looking to do so for the first time in their high school careers.

Boys 300

The final section in the boys 300 looks to hold Isaiah Southerland (Jordan) and Josh Polk (Hobbton) from North Carolina going against some strong out of state competition.  Both will look to run in the low 35s and climb the state leader boards.  They'll go against Nicholas Wilson (Dematha Catholic, Maryland) who clocked a 48.77 400 as a freshman last season!

Boys 500

Josh Jones (Knightdale) comes in with the fastest PR in the field of 1:07.85 narrowly over Shawn Ocasio (Jack Britt) who has run 1:07.9 last season and only competed once so far this year in the event.  There is a ton of 1:08-1:09 guys entered in this field and we could see the winner come from one of the slower sections.
