Boys Preview - NCRunners Elite Invitational

Events to Watch:

If you like the hurdles, this meet is for you!  Marcus Krah (Hillside) headlines a 110 Hurdles race that includes the top 3 boys in the state, with Brent Carroll (Berry Academy) and Elliott Graves (Reidsville) also entered.  Graves and Carroll will also battle in the 300 Hurdles, which could help push both of them closer to the 37-second barrier.

The 800 should be really exciting, with two clusters of strong runners to battle for place and time.  Connor Peeples (Cardinal Gibbons) has the top seed based on PR's, but Green Hope teammates Jayquan Williams and Henry Pehr have been ranked 1-2 in the state since early March.  There is a second group with times in the 1:56 - 1:57 range as well, but a few of them may very well bridge the gap to the front three - most notably Kenny Kneisel (Mount Tabor), who has been having a magnificent season.  Will someone else be able to capitalize on a fast pace up front to have a breakthrough race?

The 4x400 should be the best of the boys' relays, with top seed Richlands being pursued by Cary, Southeast Raleigh, and South View.  All four of those teams are well under 3:30 this year, and that should make for intense competition.  Panther Creek holds the top FAT mark in the 4x1 and 4x2, and they could get pushed by St. Paul's in the former.  The 4x2 could also be very competitive, with a pack of 1:31 teams vying against each other as well as the Catamounts.

Athletes to Watch:

Terrell Adams (Middle Creek) as been tearing it up in the throws this spring, posting state-leading marks in both the shot put and the discus (where he is currently ranked US #17).  To this point his best throws have come in smaller meets, and you know he wants to equal those on Saturdays in the postseason, so this could a step in the right direction.

In addition to the 100H, Krah is also the top seed in the long and triple jumps.  He has yet to break 47 feet this spring after going through a light winter season, but with championship season approaching he may want to make a statement.

Elijah Cole (Millbrook) cleared 16' 1.25" indoors, but his outdoor best is 15 feet so far this season.  That's not all that unusual, as outdoor conditions in the early spring are often counterproductive for vaulters.  You can bet he's looking forward to getting that crossbar higher, though!
