2A Boys

Will it be an Evans sweep of the top two positions, or will someone get in there to break it up? Luke and Josh Evans (Westchester Country Day) have the top two times coming into the meet, but they will be challenged by several talented runners. That chase pack should include Alex Nadaud (Cape Fear Academy) as well as Landon Smith (Caldwell Academy), who is the top returner from last year's 2A boys race. Also, don't sleep on Christian Pigues (Trinity Academy), even though he hasn't run under 17:20 yet this year - he's a 1:55 guy on a course that favors speed, and that matters.
Although the presence of a rivalry makes the 2A Girls' team race very interesting, this could actually be the closest event of the day in terms of team scoring. There are 5 teams that grade out within 36 points of each other in team rankings for this meet, including former 4-time winner Grace Christian and current defending champion Epiphany School. The latter team is a bit of a mystery this year - they returned 5 of their top 6 runners from last year's title team, but haven't quite seemed to live up to that potential yet; they have as much firepower up front as anyone in the race, but depth has been an issue. With the Evans brothers up front, Westchester is certainly a contender, as is Cary Christian, and you could certainly include Asheville Christian as a sleeper candidate - any time those mountain teams come down to the faster flatland courses, they have a big chance to improve.
