Rivalries Renewed and Streaks on the Line: NCISAA State Meet Preview

1A Girls

Since the 1A girls reached enough teams to have their own championship in 2011, only two teams have won the title: Trinity School of Durham & Chapel Hill took the first 1A-only championship, and then Hickory Christian claimed the next 3, including last year's. The Knights only had 5 runners last year, but all of them return, and that makes them the favorite yet again (despite the lack of results in our database). Furthermore, they have individual champion Kirsten Burton back, although we don't have a time for her yet this year. She may get some serious competition from Morgan Lane (Community Christian), who has the top recorded time in the classification. Bella Jacoby (Woodlawn) and Emily Frye (Hickory Christian) should also be in contention.

If Burton isn't able to run and Hickory Christian is not at full strength (she did not compete at their conference meet), then the team battle could come down to Woodlawn School vs. Wayne Country Day. We never know for sure what's going to happen in the 1A girls race until everyone crosses the finish line, so I'm looking forward to finding that out on Friday!
