Week 1 was impressive in terms of the performances laid down by North Carolina athletes. The fan polls for Week 1 were also impressive, gathering nearly 4000 votes on the boys' side alone! We're going to run polls like this every week, and on Thursdays we'll summarize the results and add our own voices to the mix.
Female Performance of the Week
The fan voting was overwhelmingly in favor of a possible future star, who defeated a pair of legitimate veteran runners in her debut invitational. The NCRunners staff was likewise unanimous, but for a different candidate, an existing star whose strong return to a moderately challenging course may be a herald of a great season to come.

I recorded the results of the voting before I went to bed on Wednesday night, and of course they changed after that, adding confusion to the final outcome. Luckily, the top two candidates in the fan poll are still being recognized, as each NCRunners staffer picked a different performance.
