XC Preview: NCHSAA 2A By Region

Girls 2A Midwest Region

Teams to Watch

Only NINE points separate the top 5 teams at this region meaning it's really anybody's race to win. Each team is also really similar with a runner in the top 6. It's going to come down to who performs best as a team on the day. If any significant freshman join one of these top teams it could be difference maker in the determining a champion for this region. The worst part about having 5 strong teams in a region is that any of the cold have a bad day and not advance to the state meet. All of these teams expect to advance to the state meet, which makes this regional matchup the best out of all of 2A this season.

Athletes to Watch

Brittney Stanley (Mt. Pleasant) is the obvious favorite here with her 18:19 PR from last season and many top state meet performances over the last two years. She always performs well at the end of the season and should be under that 18 minutes barrier by the end of the season. But last track season in the 3200 Kaitlyn Stone (West Stokes) looked very strong, narrowly losing to Grace Morken. She proved she isn't afraid of a challenge and I'd expect her to do the same against Stanley. Behind them Anna-Kathryn Kilby (Forbush), Molly Boda (CATA), and Lefler McManus (West Stanley) all will have a great battle for third and will all hope to break the 20 minute mark..
