XC Preview: NCHSAA 2A By Region

Boys 2A Mideast Region

Teams to Watch

NC School of Science & Math should dominate on the regional and state levels again this year. Though the 2A powerhouse graduated its top runner and individual state champion, the team will once again benefit from top talent as well as strong pack running from all seven runners. Look out for Durham School of the Arts and Carrboro as well, as they are not only expected to take the Mideast's second and third spots behind NCSSM, but also to finish out the top 3 at the state meet. The 2015 State Championships will likely serve as a regional reunion for these teams with runners hungry to avenge any defeats from the weekend prior.

Athletes to Watch

Watch out for Trevor Deaton of Randleman as he takes his turn in the regional spotlight. Given his recent improvement in the 1600m and the 3200m, and his steady progression over each of his previous cross country seasons, this could be the season for Deaton to secure a spot in the state's top 3, possibly even contending for the championship title. Also keep an eye out for Thomas Little of Durham School of the Arts and Frank Kenny of NC School of Science & Math as they could slip past Marcus Christensen of NCSSM (Christensen hasn't posted any times since the 2014 season, possibly due to injury) to finish out the Mideast's top 3.
