XC Preview: NCHSAA 2A By Region

Girls 2A Mideast Region

Teams to Watch

After losing its top two scorers (who also happened to go one-and-two at last year's state championship), Carrboro is unlikely to repeat as the 2A state champion this year, though they are expected to still show a respectable performance at the regional level. Durham School of the Arts and NC School of Science & Math are both expected to top out the Mideast region, and could both potentially earn spots in the state's top 5. Both teams' have a #1 runner that can perform well at the regional level, but the strength of these teams at the state level will come from the ability of runners 3-5 to run as a pack.

Athletes to Watch

Amanda Hickey of Carrboro sits well above the competition among last year's Mideast returners. Currently ranked 4th in the state among last year's returners, Hickey is bound to make even greater strides at the state level with the significant increase in speed she displayed in the 2015 outdoor track season. Given her major PR's in the 800m and 1600m, expect to see Hickey knocking on the sub-19 door. You can also count on teammate Natalie Richardson to run well below the 20-minute mark this year.
