XC Preview: NCHSAA 1A By Region

Girls 1A West Region

Teams to Watch

No more Malia Ellington? No worries, Community School of Davidson still has the best returning top 5 in the West. It's a close thing, though (so maybe there are some worries) - Swain and Robbinsville both have enough talent to contend for the 2015 regional title. All 3 teams have depth issues, and none can afford any kind of significant issue. Swain may have actually claimed the front spot coming into the season on the basis of a strong spring. Want a sleeper candidate? Pine Lake Prep didn't make the top 5 of the returning XC rankings, but they have the 2nd-best team track results.

Athletes to Watch

Emma Pindur (Swain) had a very good spring, but she has the misfortune to be in the same region as Robbinsville's Shawnda Martin - and you can bet that Martin will NOT give up her final chance to win either the regional or the state meet. Did Pindur improve enough during track season to catch Blakely Moore (Highlands) for 2nd place?
