XC Preview: NCHSAA 1A By Region

Boys 1A West Region

Teams to Watch

Community School of Davidson swept both regional titles in 2014, and the Spartan boys look like heavy favorites to repeat. Not only do they lead the returning 5K rankings from the fall, but they also hold the top spot in the 1600 and 3200 team rankings from the spring. Hayesville and Lincoln Charter are ranked 2nd and 3rd based on times from last fall, but they might find themselves battling each other for the silver trophy if they can't close the gap on CSD. As was the case with the West girls, Pine Lake Prep had results worth noticing in the spring, and that might move them in striking range of a top-3 finish and a berth in the state meet.

Athletes to Watch

Frank Bragg (CSD) and Hayden Alexander (Jefferson) are virtually tied atop the returning 5K rankings, but Alexander really separated himself with strong track times. Bragg may have competition as the top CSD runner this fall, with rising freshman Jake Baugher joining the varsity after clocking 10:36 for 3200 in middle-school competition. Adam Urbanik (Hayesville) also looked very good during the spring, and he could join the race for the individual title.
