With Warm Weather, NC Finally Makes a National Impact: NCHSAA 4A State Meet Recap

Girls Distance Highlights

  • Cary started the day off with a runaway performance in the 4x800, posting a 9:14.45 NC #1 US #7. The Imps were able to pull away from Providence, who ran 9:21.52 NC #2, while High Point Central finished third on a smart anchor leg, clocking 9:30.91 NC #4.
  • The other huge time of the day came from G'Jasmyne Butler (Leesville Road), who dominated the race en route to a 2:11.07 NC #1 NC #5 All-Time. Maddie McHugh (Hough) finished second in 2:13.26 NC #2.
  • Elly Henes (Green Hope) used the same strategy to earn wins in both the 1600 and the 3200: wait for the race to develop, then power into the lead late. She sat at the back of the lead pack for most of the 1600 before taking over for a 4:58.84 win, then she sat back as much as 50 meters from the leaders in the 3200 and assumed the lead on the final lap to win in 10:39.47.
