With Warm Weather, NC Finally Makes a National Impact: NCHSAA 4A State Meet Recap

Boys Distance Highlights

  • Philip Hall (South View) was only missing one thing from his collection of state titles: an outdoor 3200 championship. He remedied that on Saturday, and will graduate with at least one of every possible kind of individual championship a distance runner can have. He ran purely for the win in the 3200, clocking 9:24.68 to pull away from Jeremy Brown (Broughton). In the 1600, though, Hall ran for time, and he posted a PR of 4:12.07 NC #1.
  • It was bookend wins for Southeast Raleigh, who opened the meet with a 7:55.01 NC #1 in the 4x800 before closing it with the 4x400 win. Mount Tabor rallied to second place on a big anchor by Kenny Kneisel, with South Mecklenburg taking third behind Haywood Ferguson - which was a battle that might repeat itself next year.
  • Vincent Crisp (North Mecklenburg) won the 800 in 1:52.57 NC #2, staying well ahead of Jackson Denton (New Hanover, 1:54.40 NC #5) and Vernon Espinoza (West Forsyth, 1:54.50 NC #5).
