Despite a small enrollment, the Chargers have been able to cultivate a large and successful cross country program.
With roughly 500 students in grades 9-12, Providence Day is the same size as some of the bigger 1A schools in the NCHSAA. Despite that limited pool of athletes, however, the Charger girls are currently ranked 8th among all schools in the state, and the boys come in at 7th. Although that kind of success has only come recently, the program has a long history of success on the NCISAA level, including state championships in both genders last year (the boys are riding a 4-year title streak). So what leads to this success? Well, when you watch the video, you'll have a pretty good idea that it's a combination of coaching, dedicated athletes, and a strong team culture, with a healthy dash of long-term consistency. Make sure you catch the part of the video that deals with the Charger's boys conference winning streak!
