The Carrboro senior follows two traditions, one from her true family and the second from her "family" of teammates and coaches.
It runs in the family for Helen Morken. Not only was her sister, Grace, a multiple state champion in both track and cross country (who had her own Senior Spotlight once), but the younger Morken clearly feels that her Carrboro teammates are a second family to her. Unlike her sister, though, Helen has always had a running mate on the Jaguar girls' team, which has both driven her to improve and also removed some of the individual pressure, allowing her to specialize in the longer races. The Morken sisters share at least one other characteristic: they're not totally comfortable having the spotlight of public attention shined on them.
