Best All-Around Male Athletes in NC Track & Field

No surprises here - Isaiah Moore tops the rankings, and sets a trend that we'll see repeated: hurdler/jumpers score a lot of points.

In its original form, track & field was simply called "athletics," which means that the term "athlete" actually originated in our sport.  Most fans of the sport recognize that the decathlete is the best all-around athlete in our sport, but since so few of NC's track & field participants do the multi-events, that won't help us find the best overall among our sport.  The rankings below were generated from our Team Power Ratings function, which gives athletes points for being in the top 20 of an event: 20 points for first, 19 points for second, all the way down to 1 point for 20th.  The points are added up for each event in which the athlete makes the top 20 in the state, and then the total points determine the rankings.  Events like the 400 Hurdles, Javelin, and Hammer Throw are included because they represent different skills than other "standard" North Carolina events (and also to reward those who seek ways to branch out and develop).

Top 10 All-Around Male Athletes in NC Track & Field

1. Isaiah Moore (110H 20 + 300H 19 + HJ 1.5 + LJ 20 = 60.5)

2. Ian Milder (1600m 19 + 3200m 20 = 39)

NOTE: Milder was given credit for being clearly the top 800 runner in the state despite not having run the open 800; his split of 1:50-low at the state meet establishes this.

3. Trentavis Friday (100m 20 + 200m 20 + 400m 17 = 57)

4. Colin Minor (D 15 + HT 20 + S 20 = 55)

5. Philip Hall (1600m 18 + 3200m 18 + 800m 17 = 53)
