Dropping the relay carnival format and going with a traditional NCHSAA state meet schedule, meet management was able to attract even more talent than in the past, especially on the girls' side. The showcase events turned out to be the 100 Hurdles, where three of the state's best athletes combined with gusty conditions to post some big times (though they would not count for records due to the +2.4 aiding wind). Anna Cockrell (Providence Day) claimed the win in that race with a time of 13.91 NC #1 US #11 (all conditions), besting Ebony Williams (Parkland) and her 14.01 NC #2 US #21 (all conditions).
