Missouri Trio Competes in San Diego

The Missouri contingent at Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals had an exciting, yet slightly disappointing, day of racing Saturday in San Diego.

Virginians @ Foot Locker Nationals: Caroline Alcorta 3rd!

A total of six Virginians competed Saturday at the 2013 Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego, California. Only one of the six was able to earn top 15 All-American honors with West Springfield senior Caroline Alcorta having one of the highest finishes ever by a Virginian in the championship girls' race with a third place finish of 17:31.

Interview with Foot Locker finalist Caroline Alcorta of West Springfield (VA)

Not much else can added to what has already been said and written about Caroline Alcorta's 2013 cross country season. She described it best at the state meet as "amazing". The West Springfield senior will look to put the cherry on top of an incredible past several months of performances and compete with the leaders and individual race contenders on Saturday in the championship girls' race at the 2013 Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego. Alcorta took the time to be interviewed by MileStat.com this past week before she departed off to the West Coast.

Xiang Excited To Run Against Nations Elite In San Diego

After finishing third at the 3A Cross Country Finals, Nease senior Karen Xiang was back to business at the Foot Locker South Regional. The University of Pennsylvania commitment nabbed the tenth and final spot to San Diego in a new personal best time of 17:20.00. We caught up with her before the big race to find out her strategy, her excitement level, and much more!

Bennett In Best Shape Heading Into Foot Locker Nationals

Fort Myers senior Tyler Bennett finished seventh at the Foot Locker South Regional in a new personal best time of 14:52.00. Last year, Bennett was 20th at Foot Locker South and says he is glad the hard work over the past year has finally paid off. See how he plans to attack the steep hill at Balboa Park, his race strategy, and his thoughts on being one of the top runners in the country.

Interview with Foot Locker finalist Molly Breidenbaugh of Trinity Episcopal (VA)

The William & Mary recruit Breidenbaugh had already been ready to race this late Into the post-season of cross country competing at the USATF National Junior Olympics this coming weekend, but now she will be traveling further west on her flight on Thursday as instead of stopping in San Antonio, Breidenbaugh will keep on going until she gets to Balboa Park in San Diego. MileStat.com interviewed the Trinity Episcopal senior Molly Breidenbaugh before she competes in her first Foot Locker Nationals race.

Interview with Foot Locker finalist Mackenzie Haight of George C. Marshall (VA)

All season long, Mackenzie Haight of George C. Marshall had to take defeat after defeat at the hands of Louis Colson. A total of 9 races to be exact that Haight raced against the state's best high school cross country runner this fall in Colson and every time Haight was denied victory. Two weeks ago at the Foot Locker South Regional, Haight once again finished behind Colson again but this time finished much closer to him than any race this season easily with only a one second buffer between the two as both punched tickets to nationals with top 10 finishes and sub 15 minute races. Haight might not have enjoyed as many victories as he would have liked this season despite competing a consistently high level and running great times all season long with Colson in his way, but will get to experience and enjoy something that many other runners in the state who may have had more wins this season wish and envy that they could be part of on Saturday.

Kauppila finds new recipe for success

Even with the elite level of running that Noah Kauppila has achieved, he proved this postseason that there is always something new to learn about his sport.

Interview with Foot Locker finalist Katy Kunc of Lake Braddock (VA)

Interview with Lake Braddock senior Katy Kunc prior to racing at the Foot Locker Nationals this Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego. In only her second year of running cross country, Kunc made remarkable improvements after an incredible first year of running in cross country and track coming over as a soccer and basketball player in her first two years of high school.

Foot Locker West: How the West Is Won

Saturday the 7th of December, the legendary Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country course in Walnut, CA will play host to the 34 Annual Foot Locker Western Regional Championships.

PennTrackXC Journal: Tessa Barrett, Abington Heights - Entry #4 - Dec 4th - Running toward a dream

Abington Heights senior Tessa Barrett qualified for states in XC as a freshman and sophomore, and after an eye-opening 17:58 at the 2012 Tennett Invitatonal, she looked destined to challange for a state AAA title. But a mud-fest at the District 2 meet led to an injury, and the opportunity was lost. She bounced back in indoor with a solo 10:02 3k in February. Her 3000 at PTFCA champs was an epic battle with Courtney Smith and Regan Rome - one she ultimately won in a state record 9:47.73. She would go on to take 4th at the Penn Relays 3000 in 9:40, and then 2nd (to Smith) in another battle at outdoor states, going 10:25 for 3200 meters. This year she opened with a stunning 17:26 at Cliff Robbins, and then not only won the Gold Race at PIAA Foundation, but set the course record for the Poop-Out Hill layout in 17:48. And then she followed in the recent spike-prints of Neely Spence and Angel Piccirillo, winning the Foot Locker Northeast Regional.

Foot Locker Northeast Girls Race Story

Nationally ranked heading into the Foot Locker Northeast Regional in New York City, Tessa Barrett had few external forces to move her along during a thus-far undefeated 2013 harrier campaign.

Foot Locker Northeast Boys Race Story

On Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park, 10th was as good as first for those in the championship races of the Foot Locker Northeast Regional, with trips to the National Final in San Diego awaiting those finishers.

USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships

On-Site Coverage

New Mexico has solid showings at USATF National Junior Olympics

If, like me, you figured that NXR-SW and FLW pretty much ended the New Mexico high school cross country season for 2013, you would have been wrong about that. New Mexico, had some very nice showings yesterday in San Antonio at the USATF National Junior Olympics meet.

Virginians @ USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships

The Richmond Track & Field Club, headed by Maggie Walker Governor's School coach Jim Holdren, took a large group of Richmond area Virginia high school cross country runners to the USATF National Junior Olympic XC Championships in San Antonio, Texas  this past weekend. A good number of those individuals will be returning back to Virginia as USATF All-American after top 25 finishes in their age group races.

National title for Sentinel Striders

The Sentinels Striders earned a bit of history at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships in Texas. For the first time in the club’s history, one of its teams captured a national title. Led by a runner-up effort from Wickford native Sam Toolin, the Striders’ age 11-12 squad took first-place honors by defeating the Indiana All-Stars, 81-101.
