Interview with Foot Locker finalist Mackenzie Haight of George C. Marshall (VA)
All season long, Mackenzie Haight of George C. Marshall had to take defeat after defeat at the hands of Louis Colson. A total of 9 races to be exact that Haight raced against the state's best high school cross country runner this fall in Colson and every time Haight was denied victory. Two weeks ago at the Foot Locker South Regional, Haight once again finished behind Colson again but this time finished much closer to him than any race this season easily with only a one second buffer between the two as both punched tickets to nationals with top 10 finishes and sub 15 minute races. Haight might not have enjoyed as many victories as he would have liked this season despite competing a consistently high level and running great times all season long with Colson in his way, but will get to experience and enjoy something that many other runners in the state who may have had more wins this season wish and envy that they could be part of on Saturday.

PennTrackXC Journal: Tessa Barrett, Abington Heights - Entry #4 - Dec 4th - Running toward a dream
Abington Heights senior Tessa Barrett qualified for states in XC as a freshman and sophomore, and after an eye-opening 17:58 at the 2012 Tennett Invitatonal, she looked destined to challange for a state AAA title. But a mud-fest at the District 2 meet led to an injury, and the opportunity was lost. She bounced back in indoor with a solo 10:02 3k in February. Her 3000 at PTFCA champs was an epic battle with Courtney Smith and Regan Rome - one she ultimately won in a state record 9:47.73. She would go on to take 4th at the Penn Relays 3000 in 9:40, and then 2nd (to Smith) in another battle at outdoor states, going 10:25 for 3200 meters. This year she opened with a stunning 17:26 at Cliff Robbins, and then not only won the Gold Race at PIAA Foundation, but set the course record for the Poop-Out Hill layout in 17:48. And then she followed in the recent spike-prints of Neely Spence and Angel Piccirillo, winning the Foot Locker Northeast Regional.

New Mexico has solid showings at USATF National Junior Olympics
If, like me, you figured that NXR-SW and FLW pretty much ended the New Mexico high school cross country season for 2013, you would have been wrong about that. New Mexico, had some very nice showings yesterday in San Antonio at the USATF National Junior Olympics meet.
Virginians @ USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships
The Richmond Track & Field Club, headed by Maggie Walker Governor's School coach Jim Holdren, took a large group of Richmond area Virginia high school cross country runners to the USATF National Junior Olympic XC Championships in San Antonio, Texas this past weekend. A good number of those individuals will be returning back to Virginia as USATF All-American after top 25 finishes in their age group races.
National title for Sentinel Striders
The Sentinels Striders earned a bit of history at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships in Texas. For the first time in the club’s history, one of its teams captured a national title. Led by a runner-up effort from Wickford native Sam Toolin, the Striders’ age 11-12 squad took first-place honors by defeating the Indiana All-Stars, 81-101.
Colorado at USATF National Junior Olympics
On a pleasantly warm day in San Antonio, where the temperatures crept into the 60s, the age groupers settled it all for another year.
