The Chargers Postseason Tune-Up combines a beautiful facility with good competition, as Foot Locker South approaches.

"The calm before the storm."  A perfect description of this weekend, as North Carolina prepares for the massive amounts of athletes that will descend on McAlpine and WakeMed next weekend for the postseason regional meets.  In the meantime, we have two things to occupy our attention: more of our state's best high school runners are tuning up for their final cross country races, while our alumni will be competing in NCAA national championship meets in all three divisions.

  • This meet allows aome of North Carolina's top runners to get out of the shadows of the super-elite runners and put their own talent on display.  In the girls' race, Kayla Glova (Providence) gets the chance to lead a race for once, with her better-known teammates sitting this one out.  Kayla is, after all, and 18:18 5K runner. 12th-fastest in 4A and 21st all-classes this season.  Anna McElrath (Independence) broke 19 for the first time this fall, and she also has by far the best track speed in the field (he 1600 PR is 5:14).   For the boys, McCann Sheridan (JM Robinson) is the headliner; he ranks 13th in 4A and 21st all-classes with his time of 15:40, but this will be his first 3200 ever (he does have a 4:22 for 1600).  He will have familiar competition in Alex Cornwell (Hickory Ridge) and Jack Ratteree (Charlotte Latin), both of them sub-16 runners.  Cornwell will the the #12 returner all-classes next fall, while Ratteree is the 4th-fastest returner in the NCISAA 3A classification.  Patrick Hunter (Cannon School) was a sub-10 two-miler in the spring, and Fisher Ramsey (East Mecklenburg) should also be competitive.  The boys are divided in to two sections, with the faster section going last.
