Big Winners During Conference Meet Week

Nick Linder and his Providence Day teammates vaulted up the rankings with a strong performance at the CISAA championship.

Girls Big Winners from Conference Meet Week (Girls All-Classes Team Rankings)

Although there wasn't a lot of movement in the girls' team rankings, a few of the teams already in the top 10 still had eye-opening performances:

  • Green Hope put 5 runners under 19 minutes (and 6 under 19:02) thanks to a huge breakthrough from Reilly Caldwell.  That allowed the Falcons to reclaim 1st in the All-Classes Rankings

  • Broughton defeated Millbrook solidly, moving up to 8th in the All-Classes Rankings

  • T.C. Roberson: moved up to 5th in the All-Classes Rankings, joined the list of schools with 5 under 20 minutes

  • West Carteret moved into 3rd in the NCHSAA 3A rankings, although the course at Havelock is a mystery

  • Providence Day's girls moved up to #1 in the NCISAA 3A rankings, with Charlotte Latin moving from 4th to 2nd.  Also, Covenant Day jumped from 8th to 6th in the same classification.

  • East Lincoln took over the top spot in the NCHSAA 2A rankings, proving that Carrboro won't be able to ease into another state title.  Smoky Mountain also moved up in that classification, from 8th to 6th.

  • Pine Lake Preparatory climbed one spot in the NCHSAA 1A rankings, landing at 7th.

  • Fayetteville Academy (was 7th, now 2nd) and Westchester Country Day (was unranked, now 4th) had big jumps in the NCISAA 1A/2A rankings.  Caldwell Academy climbed from unranked to 7th, as well.

Boys Big Winners from Conference Meet Week (Boys All-Classes Team Rankings)

On the other hand, the boys' rankings got turned completely on their ear this week, as several teams vaulted up with impressive performances:

  • South View showed they aren't done yet; after injuries and some shaky performances dropped them down in the All-Classes rankings, they put it together on their home course to move up to 4th.

  • Providence Day had the biggest leap of any team, boys or girls, moving from 12th to 6th after putting three guys under 16 at McAlpine.

  • R.J. Reynolds actually fell one spot, as a tough conference-meet course didn't help them in statistical rankings, but the value of defeating #2 Mount Tabor at the CPC meet can't be overstated.

  • Cary moved up from 24th to 13th in the 4A rankings

  • North Lincoln (3rd) and West Carteret (7th) both moved up a spot in the NCHSAA 3A rankings

  • Charlotte Latin leaped from 6th to 3rd in the NCISAA 3A rankings, getting ready for next week's state meet at Hagan Stone; in the same class, SouthLake Christian moved from 9th to 7th, and Durham Academy entered the top 10.

  • Bandys moved from 7th to 6th in the NCHSAA 2A rankings, while East Lincoln jumped from 10th to 8th.

  • North Stokes leapt from 10th to 6th in the NCHSAA 1A rankings, and Walkertown moved up from 9th to 8th.

  • Caldwell Academy enters the NCISAA 1A/2A rankings for the first time and debuts with a bang, slotting in at 4th.  Fayetteville Christian (8th) and Burlington Christian (9th) also made their first appearance.
