Abdi ran 1:49.9 at the Club Northwest All-Comers Meet tonight in Redmond. His time ranks him #2 All-time in the state of Washington and #3 nationally this year. He was paced through 600m by former Hale and UW runner Bruce Jackson.Abdi Hassan’s story has a lot in common with the story of a large group of runners who have found a place in the top ranks of HS athletes. It is the things that are not common that made this account of particular interest to me.Abdi’s journey and his attitude toward it is what makes this track star stand out.

Dutch's coach, Bennett Jones had this to say, “The disqualification was extremely disappointing for Johnny. The 110 hurdles has always been his best race and he was looking forward to trying to defend his championship and to make an attempt at the national record in the event. To have that opportunity taken away was not only unjust for Johnny, but also for all of those that wanted to see him perform one last time on the Nike stage. With that said, Johnny is now focused on running the best he can at the USATF Juniors and on continuing to get better each day. Johnny has shown remarkable resolve throughout his career and I have no doubt that he will do so again this upcoming weekend.” Photo of Dutch prior to the 400m Hurdles.
Audio Interview with Ashley Brasovan after fourth place finish at Nike Outdoor. Brasovan says no one really pushed the pace in her Seeded Two Mile race, leaving her to lead. That took its toll on her at the end of the race when the other girls dropped big negative splits and her legs didn\'t have it. She will hang up her track spikes for the summer and start training for cross country after a short break. Christal Washington was indeed the athlete of the weekend for Florida. Her impressive 800 meter run was not only a five second PR for her and one of the top times in the nation this year, it placed her at #2 All-Time for the event in Florida. Her 2:05.83 is impressive for any level and the junior really put herself on the map. She won her sixth heat by a margin of three seconds, and would have been better served competing in the faster heat 7, where Chanelle Price of Pennsylvana blew the socks off of the competition with a could-go-pro-now 2:02.76. Washington can be assured that she will not be overlooked for the fast heat in any national level competition any longer. Orlando Oak Ridge won the national title in the Girls 800 Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.79. Their legs were Denae Fluellen, Amber Outing, Anjoure Teele, and Victoria Watson. The team, minus Teele and plus Odeika Bent, came back later in the day to finish second in the 4x100 Meter finals with a time of 46.51 against rivals Miami Northwestern who finished just a blink of the eye back with a time of 46.71 for fourth place. But the Bulls would not be shut out by those Pioneers. The closed the meet with a smoking 3:39.89 to easily win the 4x400 title behind the amazing legs of Skyler Wallen, Brittany Pringley, Lizzie Harris, and Brittany McCord. This time it was Oak Ridge in fourth 3:46.67. Michael Putman was the top Florida boys placer. He threw the shot 63-11 for third place and a new PR. Read the full highlights

In her first attempt in the finals of the long jump at Nike Outdoor Nationals, Shakia Forbes finally was able to leap over the benchmark which had eluded her all spring long with the 20 plus foot long jump with a mark of 20'2.25" to win the national title. The Bethel senior had continue to inch closer to 20 feet this entire season and finally achieved her goal as Virginia's only second national champion of the meet (Brooke Point's April Sinkler won the high jump on Friday). There were a handful of other All-Americans in the meet from Virginia including Sean Holston in the 400 meter dash (2nd, 46.64), Natalie Baird in the discus throw (4th, 154'4"), and Catherine White in the 2K steeplechase (5th, 6:48.91). Holston is looking to redeem himself of his first defeat this spring next weekend at USATF Junior Nationals, which Forbes will also be another represenative from Virginia in Indianapolis. White, one of Virginia's most decorated and accomplished distance runners, finished out her high school career with an iron woman triple with the two mile run on Friday (10:34.88) and 2K steeplechase (6:48.91) and mile run (5:00.53) on Saturday. Baird had been under the weather this week including an urgent care visit while in Greensboro, but was still able to muster an All-American showing. The Western Branch boys and Bethel boys both picked All-American honors in relay action and will definitely be back next year for more honors with virtually no seniors on either squad. The Western Branch led for nearly three legs in the top section of the 4x400 meter relay and ended up as the sixth place finisher in 3:14.91. Meanwhile, the Bethel boys continued their solid weekend with top 8 showings in three different relays with their top finishing coming in a third place showing in the 800 meter SMR at 1:31.18. It didn't go as expected, and the NC athlete we thought would win didn't, but all in all a spectacular race for North Carolina. Looking at any National Rankings list during the season, it was evident that North Carolina was very strong in the boy's hurdles. Maybe it's in the water?
Chrys Jones finishes 2nd in the NON Triple Jump and Mary Grace Pellegrini is 6th in the Girls Emerging One Mile Run.
Athletic ability runs in some families. In Geoffrey Tabor’s family, it seems to gallop. And Tabor’s skills extend well beyond the playing field. A junior from Ardmore, Okla., High School, Tabor is one of the leading discus and shot put entries for the Nike Outdoor Nationals, June 15-16 at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. Sixth in the discus at last year’s NON, the 6-foot-1, 207-pound Tabor comes to Greensboro this year with a season best of 209-5 – the No. 1 high school mark in the land, a full four feet better than the year’s next-best prep performance.
Emilie Amaro of Cypress Bay broke out a big new PR in the unseeded heat of the Girls 2 Mile race last night in Greensboro. Emilie ran a very agressive race, leading and pushing the pace for much of the race. She fell back slightly toward the end, but with an impressive second wind on the last lap battled back into contention passing two girls and fighting Virginian Sarrah Jadiji for the finish tape. Hadiji's kick was too strong, but Amaro none the less looked very impressive. She finished in second place with a new PR of 10:32.39.Kayla Hale also competed in that heat. She finished ten seconds behind Amaro with a respectable time of 10:41.31, but was never about to mount much of a threat for the lead.Nike Indoor National champion Ashley Brasovan competed later in the evening in the Seeded division of the 2 Mile. Brasovan looked strong and stayed near the leaders for the entire race, leading for the first half as is her normal style to lead from the gun. She held on and finished in 4th place with a time of 10:27.09. Ashley Higginson of New Jersey won that race in 10:17.44.The girls from Orlando Oak Ridge competed in the 3rd of 4 heats (slowest to fastest) in the 4x200. Odeika Bent took it home for the Pioneers and they won their heat easily with a time of 1:39.07. Overall that placed them second, beating out all but one of the teams' times from the fast heat. The winning time was Therrell, Georgia with a time of 1:38.37. Now we are left to wonder if the girls in the green and yellow could have been able to match up with Therrell and win if they had been in the fast heat. Congratulations to Coach Stamper, Bent, Amber Outing, Anjoure Teele, and Victoria Watson!See More for Full List
Video interview by Brandon Miles with W.T. Woodson senior Sarrah Hadiji who concluded her high school career with an amazing nearly 20 second personal best time of 10:31.39 in the two mile run at Nike Outdoor Nationals. Hadji won the unseeded section of the event going from fourth to first in the final 100 meters with an fast finish to post the state\'s fastest time for 3200 meters (converted from 2 mile).
Trenton in the 100m Dash, Kamoran in the shot put. Mike Eddy and Chris Culliver also won "Emerging Elite" events.
Union County High School Junior Evan Crowdus, of Morganfield, Kentucky, walked a7:12.76 Friday to win the 1-Mile Racewalk Friday at the Nike Outdoor Nationals inGreensboro, North Carolina.
On a cool, crisp, breezeless night perfect for distance racing, two girls and two boys broke the one-year old meet records in the 5000. Michigan's Marissa Treece opened an early lead and kept Pennsylvania's Lara Croffrord about 30 meters back the entire way, pushing across the line in 16:36.34. Crofford, who was alone in 2nd most of the race, went 16:43.46. The meet record of 16:57.21 was held by Bona Jones of Florida. Connecticut's Adam Vess and New Jersey's Doug Smith battlled over the last mile, with Smith taking a lead on the pentultimate lap, before the sophomore was overpowered by his senior racing companion on the final lap. Vess finished in 14:38.23, with Smith in at 14:40.76. The meet record of 14:48.43 was set in 2006 by Ben Massum of New Jersey.
Kamorean Hayes is one of the most decorated HS athletes in state history. She has won multiple National Titles both indoors & outdoors, represented the US at the International Level, and been named an All-American by USA Today. She enters this weekends' Nike Outdoor Nationals with the top mark in the US. She threw the shot 51-03.50 at the 4A state meet in May at North Carolina A&T. The same place where she be throwing on Friday. Kamorean actually has 7 of the top 13 shot put throws in the US this outdoor season. She will also be participating in the discus, where she is highly ranked as well. In 2005, Kamorean placed 3rd in the girl's discus throw at the Outdoor Championships. The 5000 meter races were contested Thursday at the 2007 Nike Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina with the 5000 meter races. The race has grown greatly from last year in which the event was first contested at NON as shown by a total of three sections for the boys. West Springfield senior Mike Spooner (pictured left by Don Rich of PennTrackXC.com) kicked off the meet for Virginia with the state's first All-American honors as Spooner bettered his cross country 5K PR of 15:03 with a 15:01.73 clocking on the track for fifth place honors. Laurel MacMillan had the top time among the Virginian girls at 17:51.81 for a personal best time for the Blacksburg junior as the 10th place finisher. Dylan Ferris is heading into this weekend's Nike Outdoor National meet with a lot of confidence. In the last 2 weeks, he has run a 4:08.1 true mile and the nation's #1 800 meter time, 1:49.27. Dylan is only a junior but enters the meet with very lofty goals. For him, everything seems to be lining up perfectly. Photo: Winning the 4A 1600m state title. Taken by Mark Keenen of NCRunners.com.

Day Three: Chanelle Price, Ryann Krais, Karlee McQuillen and more, including ... Simon Gratz had a dropped stick on Friday in the 1600 sprint medley, but more than made up for that with a 1:31+ by winning the first of four heats (yep, the 'slow' one), and then held on for 6th place and all-American honors. Westmont Hilltop's Karlee McQuillen defended her javelin title with a throw of nearly 150 feet. Laura Reisek and Elisha Jones, Eisenhower, also medaled. In the boys' javelin, Brian Moore, LaSalle, was third with a PR of 209-08, and Justin Shirk, Central Dauphin, took 4th with his 207-03. Her time was under 16:43.46, and broke the meet record set in 2006, but she finished 2nd to Marissa Treese of Michigan. Crofford said that she was more pleased with this race and this place that her state title in the 3200 in late May, and that the time was better than she had hoped for.
